I have no idea so this a total guess but could it be placenta previa, grade 1?
Guessing but maybe posterior presentation station -1
Eta: or even presenting part
That would be more likely lol.. Hopefully you would know if you had placenta previa..
Thanks, I know my placenta is not in the way, so assuming it's nothing to do with that.
why don't you call and ask her? My guess would be posterior position, and personally I'd like to know if that is the case...
I did google it, but all it came up with was the length of the cervix post partum, so that's no help :dunno:
It's ok, I'm being induced on Friday arvo anyway, so I'm guessing it means all systems are go!
She did tell me yesterday, but with all the induction talk it was a lot of info to take in...!
posterior presentation at station -1 (level of engagement) hope that little mite turns for you :)
Thanks Skybie - I'm basically living on a fit ball right now! Apparently the head is in the right position, and the spine is starting to line up, but bubs is still sideways - which is an improvement on last week, when they were completely posterior (spine lined up with mine?).
Is -1 engagement a positive thing, or does that mean a ways to go yet? I get confused with this and the fifths above brim (according to same notes I'm 2-3/5 above, when previously I've only been 4/5 or 3/5, so I imagine that's a step in the right direction).
So much jargon, so little time!!!
dpnt worry yourself over the engagement, alot of babies dont engage till labour, some do it weeks beforehand
IT DOESNT STAND FOR POSTERIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It stands for Presenting Part!!
Firstly, the ob wouldn't have been able to tell if bub was posterior after an internal unless you were dilating (depending on her skill level as to how dilated you had to be). The ob would only be able to tell if bub was posterior from when she palpated your tummy.
so.. by presenting part it means the part of bub on your cervix. if bub was cephalic - would be bubs head - which is what you want. (if bub was breech would be bubs bum etc..)
the -1 means how far down into the pelvis the PP is. the pelvis is devided into 5 levels. 0 = spines (little nobly bits on your pelvis bone), this is the 'middle'. -2 is your pelvic brim (basically means bub isn't in the pelvis - or not engaged). +2 is crowning.
so if your bub is PP -1 means bubs head (im assuming bub is head down), and halfway between your pubic brim and your pelvic spines. put simply, bub is JUST in your pelvis.
=) hope that helps, i can draw a picture which makes it so much easier to understand...but tricky on here =P
Thanks everyone! Is definitely head down, as I had a successful ECV a few weeks ago. My OB did a quick U/S to check whether posterior or not. And my cervix is still closed (medium consistency - if that is the right word!!), but shortening - 1cm she thinks.
