How do I get Miss P in my ergo in the back carry position without assistance? Is it even possible? Ta.
It is possible. 9 months is a good age for it. You have to cross your arms when you pick them up then fling them over your shoulder... you need to see a video. youtube?
I have carried a few children on my back so I am used to the movement required.... but I have my ergo plugged on to my hips and straps loose, pick up baby and scoot her around to my back from my hip and lean forward as she starts to get to the middle of my back. THat means she can't really move anywhere because she is on her tummy on my back quite flat. then I grab both arms and flick the carrier over her back and put my arms through. Tighten the straps and off we go. 'they' recommend doing it on a bed or something soft the first few times. My children got used to the movement after a while and are happy to help me by keeping still!
meow do you mean fling the baby over your shoulder and slide them into position??
I have the waist band on and the straps hanging down. Fling baby over and rest him on my back like a piggy back while I'm leaning right over so he's horizontal. Then I keep one hand on him and pull up one strap, making sure his leg comes out where it should. Pull up the other strap with a flick so the body of the ergo goes over his back and put that on. Grab his feet and wriggle him down while moving upright. Then I do up the front clip and reach back to put a hand under his bum and adjust how his sitting so he's sitting deep in the ergo and we're good to go. Does that make any sense?!
yeah that is how i do it too!!! here is a link similiar to how i do it for NickleErgo or Beco back carry - YouTube
Youtube it, Superman Toss. :)
I do it more like this, with both straps down the start. But I toss my baby over my back to start  I feel like I'll drop him when I try and just slide him into place from my hip.

I go under the arm and round the side. You toss them over your shoulder, really? Impressed.
Definitely possible! The first time I did it, I did it over the couch, in case I screwed up. But I didn't.
Waist strap on first, nice and high.
Sit baby in front of you.
Right arm over left, put your right hand under her right armpit, left under her left.
Lift her high over your head and turn her as you do, so her feet are pointing towards your bum.
Put her torso on your shoulder (I always go over the left shoulder)
Leaning over so your torso is pretty much perpendicular to the floor, wriggle her bum down.
Hold her in position with your left hand.
With your right hand close to your body, pull the right strap over your shoulder
Lean slightly to the right but keep a curve in your back as you do the left, but with your left arm as straight as you can.
Stand up, wiggling her down into the right spot
Check in the mirror.
Do up chest strap.
Best not to have her in a dress the first few times, or anything that can get caught up. Bodysuit and babylegs is good :D
Enjoy your hands free time with velcrobunny!
I need the momentum

(thanks for the superman toss tip LS!)
Thanks, ladies! Think I need to practice at home before I try it out and about, over the bed sounds good!
I saw this in action last week when cling-on DS decided he didn't want to be on the floor during our music session, so I lead the session with him on my back in the Ergo - my sister helped me get him in.
One of the other mums commented afterwards that she got a little misty-eyed watching me with DS on my back as her kids are all beyond that now... but she said she used to be able to do it by herself and then proceeded to give me a demo with her 4yo!!! :o
Impressive. She did the cross arms over, fling up and around thing too. It was over in a flash.
I need to practice it
