Carry me mum Carry me mum?

Who else has a child like this?

DD will be 4 in November and we still carry her most of the time. She can walk and run and do all of that but walking into school 90% of the time she refuses to walk so we carry her.. I have put my foot down on occasion and she just stands where she is yelling or runs after me.. or worse runs in the opposite direction, depending on whether she is in a defiant mood or not

Not overly concerned as I know she will grow out of it eventually but just wondered if others of this age did it as well?? I guess my main reason for asking is I notice a couple of other parents at school with kids DD's age and they are always walking and not complaining about it either. It can get fristrating when I have my arms full with things and she is demanding to be carried though and in that situation I simply tell her no she has to walk but it can take ages to get where you are going dragging a screaming child :/

Does she only do it when you are talking her to school? Does she like school?
Charlotte (albeit much younger) used to get like that as soon as we got to day care. She hated the place, it wasn't til I sent her to kinder and she adores it, that I realise how much she really hated being left at the day care centre.
Perhaps talk to her about why she doesn't want to walk herself into the schoolyard, she was she says?

My almost 3 year old often refuses to walk, he either insists on his trike or a trolley when we're at the shops. I just think he's lazy. Why walk when you can ride something?

DS1 who is 3 regularly says carry me!!!

I tell him he has to walk or sit in the pram!!! As too hard to push pram with DS2 in it and carry him! Have just bought a skateboard for stroller will see if that helps.

It is most places.. Even from the car to upstairs :/ She loves school and will sometimes run in with the boys but when we are leaving she goes as far as the gate and won't walk any further.

In the shops she won't sit in the trolley half the time.. Either prefers to ride it which causes fights because I don't like her on it like that. I try and get her to push it and I steer but nope she wants to push it on her own so starts another fight,.

I do think she is just lazy because if we are carrying her and the boys find something exciting she suddenly wants down but as soon as we move on she wants up again

no help here Nic but when you say stuff liek this I swear its like we are related :lol: (hang on we are) your nephew is the same Jack not Luke, he is forever wanting tot be carried or my feet hurt I can't walk they are asleep maybe its in the genes or karma comign to bite us on the butts :lol:

My two oldest don't do it any more - they still love to be picked up for cuddles, but I physically have trouble with doing that, I have a bad back and my pelvis is still suffering from the SPD from the last pregnancy - and with them being 19kg and nearly 16kg, I just can't pick them up for long periods of time.

I carry my other two children in a carrier though - do you have a carrier that you can put her on your back with? She sounds like she may just need a little more reassurance and security at this stage - and hopefully its just a phase so if you indulge her for a little bit, she may come right after realising that you are still there for her, but god its a lot more fun not being attached to mum!

I have to laugh.. Ever since I posted this thread I have only had to carry her twice :lol:

Next time I have an issue no matter how minor I am going to post it cus it seems to resolve it HA HA

LOL - DS was the same. I took him and his bestie to the park and bestie walked the whole way. I praised that. Fewer demands and he gets that I will walk off and leave if he just refuses to walk. (Or if he refuses to walk TO the park, I will pick him up - and carry him home!)

He is a lazy bugger when he wants to be though.

my DS is exactly the same, he is 3 and hates walking most of the time, he will run in front of us and just stop practically tripping us up when he wants to be carried ! he says his legs are broken and he can't walk haha if we can distract him long enough he will go running off again but usually we end up carrying him, he is pretty persistent !

his 5 year old sister is completely the opposite and never did this, guess they are all different !
