Hi everyone,
Just wondering how you are going post GD... I have just had my follow up now that DD is 2 years old... I really really detest the fact that I have to do the 75g OGTT each and every year until DD is 5!!! I keep saying to myself - just 3 more years... but the likelihood is that there will be more pregnancies would will put that goal post further and further away.
I get the results of the most recent test this coming Saturday.
least its only once a year you have to deal with it and not everyday ;)

Very true... it scares me to say that I don't think I will be far off though :( with the family history, my PCOS etc.:
I really dislike the test - the drink is just vile and is getting harder and harder to drink as each time I know how I will feel afterwards. The pathology collector had to sit next to me and make me drink it this time. I remember the first time I ever had to do the test and remember it being easier to drink the drink - mostly because I didn't know how it would effect me.
Thanks Jewel. There is a strong family history of type 2 so this time of year leaves me with a lot of anxiety.
one of the good things about being T1D, no more ikky drink tests!

I only have to do my test every two years....I wonder why.....I'm due for mine now too but keep putting it off. I find it hard to get the time to go and sit for 2-3 hours and do nothing! The drink is vile. But I guess it's for the best. I had GD with both pregnancies. I would rather catch diabetes early than find out when the damage has been done. I hope your results come back ok. I'm sure if you've been good with your diet and all that preventative stuff you will be fine. I've been a bit of a paranoid freak since I had GD. I still eat the GD diet and everything is low GI. Big hugs. I understand how nerve wracking the wait is xx
I have had GD with all 4 pregnancies and on insulin for 3. My last follow up appointment was when DD was 6 weeks old.. I wonder why they told you you need to do the test for 5 years..
As soon as bub was out my sugar levels were fine. and the gross sweet drink thing came back clear as well.. I guess they realized mine was simply GD. Although I have been told it is possible for me to develop Diabetes later in life so be aware of that
Interesting, I only did the test after DD was 6 weeks old then haven't had one since.... has something changed in the past 4 years?

i had GD and was on insulin and told that i had to do the GTT test every year. when it came up to the first year i went to my gp for a referral and she said i only needed to do it every second year but on the year in between only do a fasting sugar level. i am moving interstate at the end of the year and i am not due until feb for another test so i will see what my new gp says!

i did the 6 week check up & then my GP gave me a referral to have the test again a month or two before we said we wanted to TTC #2....but i didn't get it done :hide: and i can't remember if she said to get it done each year. oops. i think there is a really strong chance i will have it again this PG - i have so many things that point towards it (weight, family history, previous GD, age).
Well the good news is that I am still diabetes free - my levels are better and within 'normal' ranges. Insulin is all good still and I am no longer insulin resistant!!
I need to lose weight which is not easy with PCOS but can be done I just need to get into the right head space to focus on it.
I'm a little confused - I had insulin dependant GD with my first pregnancy in 2009 but I never had to haave any follow up at all. Wonder why some of us have had annual follow ups and others nothing at all? I'm about to book a test for my current pregnancy and the doctor actualy said to me "Well obviously you'll have it so we may as well know sooner rather than later." What a rude man!!
I had my 6 week follow up and had slightly elevated levels still but interestingly enough he said that they have noticed if not breastfeeding then the numbers take a bit longer to drop. I have to test again in feb to get my all clear and then every 2 years after that. I do a finger***** fasting test every week just to keep an eye on it

When I was discharged from hossy they gave me the path care slip then to go and have the test again and then get the gp at my 6 week check to let me know the results.
The results were good and gp just said to make sure I do the test every 2 years as my chances of developing diabetes is doubled now.
I can't stand the drink, it's vile and makes me feel sick. I really only drink water so something that sweet is yuk. I had to have the tolerance test with all three pregnancies and I get quite anxious knowing I have to drink it :( I also can't stand sitting there for 2 hours, I have better things to do with 2 hours child free...lol
I guess it's just poor communication for those that haven't been told to do a follow up test after birth and then every couple if years..
I had my levels tested after DS was born and they were normal. I received a letter when he was just over 12mths old to get tested.......... so far I haven't gotten around to it. Can I have one done this early in pg?
I think I'm also the only person alive who thought the drink was nice. LOL....... kinda like flat overly sweet softdrink. I'd put sugar on my sugar though........ :rofl: Note to self: step away from the sugar, and behave.
