My DD is 5months old and we are using withdrawal method. I know its not 100% safe but with my fertility issues and BF I am very confident I wont get pregnant as was my Ob. I also have no sign of a cycle like no CM etc. Once things change down there in the CM or AF department we will have to decide on something thats a little more reliable then withdrawal. My friend who has fallen pregnant first try with all of hers has a mirena and she loves it.
We did start of with condoms but I get recurrent bacterial vaginosis and every time we DTD I bled and couldn't do it again for a week so we stopped using them. I don't want to go on hormonal contreception as alot of them increase your chances of ectopic pregnancy and I am already at a high risk of that plus I get alot of break through bleeding. I also prefer my sex life not on contreception so the only option for us is for one of us to have surgical procedure to make it permenant and we are not ready to make that step just yet.
with DD1 we didnt use anything, with DD2 we didnt use anything until she was 14 months old and i had the mirena inserted, i breastfed for another year after
The prosterogen only contraceptives are fine; mini pill, 3monthly injections, implanon, mirena..
I'm getting mirena 27th Sept. I'm too hopeless to take the pill at the same time, hate condoms, dont trust withdrawal method, don't want 3 monthly injections, heard lots of crap things about implanon.. so that left mirena or abstinence for us ! :P
I'm interested in this thread and wondering if anyone has ever used a diaphragm as alternative to Condoms. How the hell do they work - I'm interested as it's non-hormonal, but they look so freaking huge.
Yeah diaphragm is like a big rubber stopper. Its a physical barrier, so thats why it looks so big, it gets squished in to make sure no sneakies get past it. Kind of feels like a plug? LOL I tried one once, but didnt last long only because it was just weird and a I couldn't get my head around it. Some women swear by them however.
I had implanon a few years ago. Still have the scars on my arm. Had zero cycle while I was on it, weird nerve pain and arm sensation after it was taken out (that still randomly comes and goes years later), had messed up cycles after it was taken out. Took a whole year before it got back to normal. I was also very aggro alot and carried extra weight while I was on it. I'm very wary of anything long term hormonal or otherwise due to that. I did do the Pill for years, but decided to give my body a break and also becuase it caused me to carry lots of excess weight which I hated. I acutally only got to a happy place with my weight just before I got pregnant.. Typical!
Hubby and I have been using condoms and that's it for awhile now well before I got pregnant, and bubs wasnt an accident, we actively decided to start trying so there was not breakages or anything haha ;) I dont like contraception much after my above experiences, and this seems to work for us.
I'm planning on breastfeeding so we will most likley just do what worked before hand.
Implanon, mini pill, depovera shot, mirena, and diaphragm come to mind.
