With DD1 I carry towels & a change of clothes at all times but to try and prevent/help it my stepmum swears by ginger.
Am going to buy ginger biscuits to give before long trips.
Flat lemonade is also meant to work
Wonders.

I was always car sick as a child. Not many things helped. There are special chewing gums that you can buy that are supposed to help, but the smell of them made me nauseous . My nana swears by putting small, strategically placed bandaid squares behind the ears (it's supposed to help with the sense of balance - the cause of travel sickness). If I remember correctly, they go just behind the ear lobes on your head (not the ears) You know, the soft spot between your skull and your jaw (Acupressure maybe?). This worked for some kids, but not all. The one thing that really helps is NOT LOOKING DOWN (i.e. reading or watching movies, playing psp etc), but to look out the window in the far distance (again, to do with your sense of balance or something ). However that does become boring when you're a kid. Trust me. Been there, done that.
My last suggestion is not always practical, but has helped enormously on those looong car trips (more than 3 hours). Driving at night. I could never sleep during day time car trips (too sick :( ... closing my eyes made me nauseous, too ), however at night time I was always fast asleep and NEVER got car sick. :dunno: Beats me why... But hey, it worked!
Sorry, that's all the advice I can offer. From the perspective of the "sufferer" ;)
I still get travel sick. Best advice - don't let my dad drive me. I'm fine if anyone else drives.
Other things that help - sitting where I can see the window, travel bands (pressure points on the wrists), sleeping through any car journey of any length. Sitting in the front seat helps a lot because then you can't concentrate on things in the back of the car, just the road ahead.
The 1 thing i have found with DD1 is she looks out the window and tries to 'count trees' which is not a great thing but we recently got the kids a portable DVD player and whilst she's looking at the 1 spot (set at the right level) she doesn't seem to get so bad.
Sea bands
Eyes on the horizon
Bandaid over your belly button so that it forms a seal. Plenty of people think this is a placebo effect, but so what if it is? Apparently there's a pressure point behind it,
Peppermint lollies
Ginger (Bundy ginger beer has real ginger. Many others are fake.)
Oh, also, don't eat any dairy 3+ hours before the trip.
Mayaness put me onto this and I now swear by it - don't ask how it works, it just does. I proved it by going up and down to Mt Hotham with and without it - without we had vomit, with we had nothing!
- A paper bag on the belly, touching the skin, under the clothes.
