What do I do about a cat in my tree?

There is a strange cat in my tree.
DS1 noticed it at about 4ish this afternoon. It was being harassed by the local bird life :doh:
It's about 4 hours now and it is still there. I don't have a ladder high enough to get there.
I have put down some cat food and tied up the dog and locked our cat inside.
Should I just leave it for the night? And call someone in the morning or should I call someone now?
DH thinks it will come down overnight but I think that if it could come down it would have come down by now.
There is frost predicted for tomorrow morning :(

Call the fire brigade. They'll come and get it down. DH turned out for a cat a while ago, he had to climb onto the roof of a house to rescue it :)

Thanks Pac, I spoke to the local fire station. They said that sometimes they stay up there for three or four days :o and that they are more likely to come down at night so if he's still there tomorrow to call back.
Poor cat :(
He meowed at me before and I felt really bad that my ladder is too small to help him.

Three to four days?!!! Oh man! It's going to be a long night for him. Hopefully he smells the food you put out for him and finds his way down.

We've had a few feral cats chased up trees over the years and you think that they look stuck, but once they feel safe they can make their way down. I reckon it will be gone by morning.

It came down at about 3am. Not very gracefully judging by the sound of its little bell. I hope it wasn't hurt and that it is safely home with its humans now.

I'm sure it would have been fine. I hope it found it's way back home too.

bahaha, love it! That's kinda my thought... if they can get up surely they can get down?

According to google tree loppers do sometimes find cat skeletons in trees :( and also they often injure themselves (sometimes fatally) trying to get down especially if they have been there a day or two and they are tired and dehydrated.
Judging by the sounds last night our visitor had a pretty hard time getting down - there was a lot of bell jingling and some little crashing noises :(

I'm sure the cat is fine Onyx. :hug: It may have sounded worse than it was.
