Blisters on Nipples

DS (15months) has been sick the last couple of weeks, and been feeding a lot more often than normal. I'm not concerned about that, as I know he is getting fluids (as he is refusing water when his temp goes right up), mummy cuddles and comfort.

BUT... after he has been on all day I get blisters on my nipples. They aren't milk blisters (well they aren't white?) but more a yellowy clear blister. They really hurt when he feeds and it makes me not want to feed him :shhh:. They are also making my nipples even more sensitive to the cold (i.e. opening the fridge; getting undressed) which I don't need cos they do a fine job of that by themselves :wall:

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of them (I've tried expressing in the shower etc) or do I just have to let them settle on their own? And how can I possibly avoid further ones? I noticed tonight that with every feed they were getting bigger / joining up :(

Does your DS have any blisters on his hands or feet or mouth? Hand-and-foot-and-mouth disease can transfer to nipples, and it's not much fun.

Otherwise I think you need to ask him to really open wide for you, so that at least a different area is being attacked.

A bit of lanolin before/after feeds and after showering might help sooth and lubricate them. I had some in hospital because DS and I weren't in sync with latching first up and they were painful. the lanolin worked a treat

It might be milk blister. Mine was kinda yellow. Really, really hurt. Is the pain just on the blister?

It's more the whole nipple MadB. They have cleared up now, I think DS managed to pop it but it hurt like no tomorrow to feed him

My nipples are still really sensitive/sore and I have a sore spot on my left boob, from the nipple to the outer edge, but I've been putting that down to pregnancy??

Sore nipples are common during pregnancy. Pain elsewhere though could be something else :dunno:

Sore nipples is one thing, but to HAVE a sore is probably something else.
Is your DS on AB's, or has he been?
I've currently got a section of areola covered in small blisters and feeding from it hurts like hell. So, I haven't let DD feed from it today - which I'm gonna have to deal with, but can't stand the idea of the suction of the pump! Might have to hand express.
I'd go see a GP about it, to take a swab and have it tested.

He has been on ab's, and onto a second course. It isn't a sore as such, but a really sore tender area. Almost like I've been hit there really hard and the pain just hasn't gone away itms
Will mention it to my GP next time I see her, or my OB if I see her first
