? re period return after baby.

Hi ladies, I'm just hoping to get some of your experiences with AF post baby.
I got my first period after having DS last month, pretty much dead on the 6 month mark. Before I had him I had 30 day cycles, today I am at day 34. Is it common to get a period and then not have another one for a while? Or for cycles to be different from what they were pre baby? I got it back a lot sooner after DD and was regular after that so I am a bit confused this time. We are using condoms only, so if course there is a small chance of being utd, but I'd be pretty surprised if I was :o

If you are breastfeeding I think it's totally normal! (if there is a normal when breastfeeding lol).

I got mine back at 7 weeks, then 5 mths, then 8 mths.. (this time).

Seems to be taking a long time for my body to gear up to ovulate each time.

Oh cool, thanks for that. Yes I am still breastfeeding, probably should have said that in my original post :)

Ah yep well I'd say that's what is is then! Not saying you aren't pregnant, lol. But yes, the breastfeeding hormones inhibit ovulation as you know, but seems they'll slow things down even after you've had a period return.

At least I know it can be some form of 'normal' :lol: I think I might POAS just to be sure, if I don't I will just constantly be thinking about it. I was very paranoid about getting pregnant before AF flow returned, now I'll be worrying about it all over again!!

Haha, it's good to know I'm not the only one!

After my DD i bled for 2 weeks then 4 weeks later i got my AF. I didn't BF so that would be why.

My AF returned after 7 months BF'ing, second & third AF's were about 6 weeks apart then have since kinda settled back to 28-32 days......though last month was 5 weeks and there was a bit of panic :D I have just gone from 3 to 2 BF's a day so not sure if that makes any difference hormone wise.

After my second child it didn't come back till she was 14 months old and I had just finished BF'ding. I took the mini pill still but it made me bleed very irreguarly so I stopped it. Got a period 2 weeks after stopping the pill and 3 weeks later I am pregnant again :o

Oh wow! Congratulations, hope your coping ok with the surprise. I had the same problem with the mini pill after I had dd, I bled the whole month I took it so obviously didn't bother with it this time. I am definitely getting a test later just in case!

Yep definitely common :D I didn't get AF back til pretty much spot on 12 months after having DS and then it was fairly regular. I was using OPKs to keep an eye on ovulation as we were TTC straight away. But most of my friends got AF back and it was irregular for a few months.

We were going to try again at the end of the year but the universe had other plans for us..heehee

I don't like the mini pill now and will definately be sending hubby in for the chop after this bubs is here!!! I've done my hard slog of contraception for the last 15 years now it's his turn!!!

When you girls mentioned that AF returned, was it a full AF or was it sometimes just a bit of spotting/slightly heavier spotting?

I ask, as I *think* AF might of come back the other day...it lasted 3 days and was really light. Do you think this could be AF??

Mine was full on, very heavy and around 5 days (just like it was before DS) I have heard people say they have had it return very light in the beginning though.
