Do you have to have the Christian belief to work at a Christian school ?? I am trying to get some sort of decent work placement (office/admin) and one school I am looking at that is close to home is a Christian school. Would I need to have their beliefs (I don't have any beliefs of anyone) in order to request work placement ?
I know that for teaching positions, you need to have done some religious education in your training to be a teacher.
...not too sure about admin roles, though...
I think they generally prefer that you respect their beliefs if you don't follow them.
It can depend on how 'open' the school and associated church is.
Which particular type of Christianity is it?

which school - can possibly give you a bit of an idea which "brand" of Christianity they will be associated with
I'm not totally sure for admin, but I know that at the school I went to they were so harsh on teachers/students alike. The teachers had to sign contracts that were ridiculous ie no homosexual conduct, no sex before marriage (can't live with boyfriend/girlfriend out of wedlock etc.
One teacher was fired cause they found out he was gay, it was awful :(
I'd avoid religious schools, and I'm a christian!

The other side to this is... how are you going to feel working around Christians all day every day? Do you get annoyed by them (us, me)? If they are a serious Christian school you might be witnessed to, how do you feel about that?

I don't mind Christians at all. I don't mind anyone of any faith. Everyone has a right to believe in anything that they want to believe in, but yeah if they were to start pushing their agenda on me then I would start getting annoyed.:
At the school DD goes to ALL the staff are Christians actively involved with the church. I know several like this. You may have more success with a catholic school but I doubt other denominations.

Bethany = pentecostal - google bethany christian school - look on the employment tab and there is a file about Equal Opportunities - have a read of that and see if you're happy with what they say - probably not likely considering one of their requirements is a regular attendance at a Christian church.
I'd suggest that Pentecostals & Baptists are more likely to want you to worship regularly. Lutheran schools I know, prefer you to worship regularly but it's not always a problem.
Different people have different ideas about what is sharing, and what is pushing. And the Bethany type church is likely to be forthright and bold about trying to convert non believers. I am not trying to scare you off, but they might see you as a target / project to convert, and you would have to work on a daily basis with people who have saving your soul as a priority. HTMS.:
Thanks Liz & Maruschke. Shall keep looking. Who knew work placement within a school office would be so damn hard. Have had a few public schools not even bother ringing me back, even if it is just to say no :(
Every school is different hun - some it's just a "respect the philosophy", while others would require an active membership at a church with pastoral references. Good luck with your placement! xo
Good Luck!! We are enrolling DS in Bethany (local to us too) and we aren't Christian (which means we are on tier 4 of the Priority Acceptance List), but is a wonderful school, we recently attended the Principals Tour and I was blown away by the school and facilities.
If you get the job, I'll slip you a fiver to make sure DS gets in :rofl:
Yeah the facilities there are great so I have heard. Do you have other options if he doesn't make it? I have friends doing work placement currently at Lake Windermere and Burton. I can't do Paralowie as my kids go there, so my other options locally for me is Riverdale or Salisbury North.
Ive worked as a teacher in heaps of christian school, and they are the most 'laid back' when it comes to your beliefs. I personally have never had to reveal my beliefs in order to get a job, and its never been on the interview questions.
Catholic schools are the most strict in my experience, Anglican schools are in between christian and catholic. Thats my experience, and personally I love the community of christian schools.

We are planning on checking out St Augustine's at Salisbury also, our best friends are sending their son there and love it, so likely we will too as are looking for the same things, we'll likely put DSs name down there also as a back up. But I REALLY like Bethany - and its walking distance.
Neither DH or I are actively religious, however we like the school and the education aspect is more important to us than the religious aspect, and I'm more than happy for DS to be exposed to religious education and make up his own mind once he's older.
We've chosen private over public because we really like the school and can afford it (it will be much less than child care fees!!!). But there are very few non denominational private schools, and none around here
