My ds3 is going through a fase of falling over literally his own two feet! Problem is he keeps whacking his head in the process! He has come up in two fresh bruises today alone!! I have a health centre app tomorrow and am cringing at the thought of her asking what happened! How do you deal with the questions without feeling like a crap parent?
My DS2 is always banging his head. It is a little embarrassing when people say, Oh, ANOTHER bruise. Especially because half the time he gets his bumps from his brother being rough with him.
It's a phase, don't worry too much. Tell them you know a mum who let her 20 month old go camping and he tripped over into an open fire and got a third degree burn. It makes you sound better.
(It was me by the way and yep, feeling crap about it still!)

I think the best response is knowledge. It can be pretty typical for kids to all of a sudden get clumsy when they are going through a developmental milestone. They are literally all fingers and thumbs and two big left feet while those neurons are busy rewiring and it generally will sort itself out in time. It can get to be a problem when your little one is the type to launch into life rather than consider it. My DD 1 was a one to take things slowly and considerately so I never dealt with bruises or clumsiness in any big way but DD2 is the opposite and is fine one minute then she goes a week of bumping into anything and everything.
I would hate to think people would judge without consideration, but in reality I guess people are pretty good at keyhole judgements :dunno: Still, a health center nurse should know all about developmental clumsiness and if she dares give you a hard time, give her a hard time right back with exasperation that she doesn't know about such things ;)
