5 long years, end in sight?
hey everyone, this is my first thread so be gentle on me with abbreviations, I am still learning.
So this is how my story goes.
Rhys (hubby) and I (Rebecca) have been trying for 5 yrs in November to have our first child. We live in a town 400kms away from the nearest IVF clinic. and both Rhys and I have fertility issues.
Rhys suffers from Extremely low motility, about 2% are mobile. It has gradually deteriated over the years from about 23% to where it is now. He is a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis so all ebryos need to be screened for the gene. I have had a hsg and 4 laporoscopies to finally find in my 3rd that I have edometriosis, however the dr decided not to take it out and wait for our specialist to remove it. So I had to wait 3 months for my body to heal before I could go back under and have the endometriosis removed. that was november last yr. In June this year we started our first cycle of ICSI, i was on nasal spray and the peregon pen injections. by the 6th day I had 16 eggs and my estrogen was rising rapidly, by day 8 I had 22 eggs and my estrogen was at 13,000 (meant to be around 4,000) the radiologist thought I would have egg retrival on day 11 of injections, howeve,r dr decided to wait for last few eggs to mature, and on day 13 with my estrogen at a massive 17,000 with 29 eggs, they did the retrieval. I woke up in excruciating pain from surgery. That night I could not sleep on my back and my abdomine was swelling rapidly. I went to emergency and the drs had no idea how to treat me. I was suffering from Ovarian Hyper Stimulation. the next day my specialst made the trip to the hospital and took charge of me. From the 29 eggs I had in my ovaries, they retrived 20. the distress on my body caused by the retrival had caused an internal bleed and fluid was building around my diaphram making it hard to breathe. I was unable to go home for 6 days. I finally started feeling better, and the good news, out of the 20 eggs retrived, 17 were viable, 16 fertilised and 8 made it through the blastocyst (most eggs are inseminated at day3, blastocyst allows the egg to mature to day 5, it increases your chance of conceiving dramatically) the down side, my body was too sick to have an insemination. I was told we would have to wait at least 2 months before we could comtemplate insemination to allow my body to go back to a normal cycle. we have decided to wait until January 2012 to try our first frozen embrio transfer. in all of this time we have tried to keep our chins up, however watching all of our friends and family having children around us has been devistating to the point where we have alienated oursleves from so many ppl becuase it is just so hard watching them have what we are so desperate for.
GOD it feels good getting all that off my chest. I would love to hear from anyone that is going though the same process, it is so hard wanting something you are trying so hard to acheive.
I wish you all luck in your journeys and hope that your little bundles arrive to you soon, happy and healthy.
