What meds do you have to pay for?

I'm a little shocked at how much this varies from clinic to clinic.

My nurse just said that next cycle, my gonal f and ovidrel is all free. I was on clomid plus ovidrel this cycle and the ovidrel was free. Do you pay for gonal f? I'm fairly sure I remember women on here paying an arm and a leg for it. She said with IVF the only meds women ever need to pay for is the progesterone. Wow. So this IUI/injectables cycle coming up will cost us 115 out of pocket including all meds and scans etc etc. :o I love QFG.

I've had to pay for all my meds. This cycle we haven't gone with ovulation stimulation so I can't tell you what the puregon injections would have been but I think they were going to be. I had the trigger shot and follow up pregnyl injections, and now continuing pregny together with progesterone tablets. Pregnyl is $20 a shot and the progesteron is about $40 for a couple of weeks worth. Scans within the clinic are included but the scan to check tubes etc cost me about $230 by the time I paid the clinic for their doctor to attend, and then the scan place for their bits. Crazy expensive business this.

Progesterone ends up costing me about $4 a day... and ovidrel, if I have to pay for it, is $85. But I am sooo excited that it is free, means we can move on to the next thing without worrying about cost.

My latest stim cycle included all meds including twice daily crinone for 14 days. FET I have to pay for prog support myself which is $185 for a box of 15 crinone. Yikes!

One really important thing you should check if you have private health insurance is their rules about what meds you can claim and how you need to receive them. With HBA I found out (after I had bought all the meds) that I could only claim money back on them if I had got a prescription from the IVF clinic doctor and bought the meds from the chemist. As I had bought the meds directly from the clinic they wouldn't cover any of the payment for me AT ALL! I was astounded. Even the girl at HBA that I spoke to was amazed that this was one of their rules and had no idea why it was the case.

I don't have private health insurance - all of my meds are covered by Medicare.

Gosh! That's great that your meds are all covered! We had quite a large out of pocket expense for a lot of our stuff in both of our IVF/PGD cycles

I did an antagonist cycle through MIVF and all our meds were included, apart from orgalutran which wasn't covered by Medicare nor my private health insurance. Unfortunately this was $90 a shot and I needed it for five days per cycle... :(

All of our meds are supplied at no additional cost for IVF cycles (included in their fees I guess), so for FET cycles we have been using our left over drugs from previous IVF cycles. We should have enough supplies for a couple of FET cycles. But I think after that we will need to pay for our meds on FET cycles :( Not looking foward to that. So remember to keep all your drugs from past cycles - they might come in handy and save you some $ for future cycles :)

I'm with MIVF too and for a stim cycle all meds are included. I think we paid for crinone during the FET - or maybe it was the ovidrel???

ETA - I always keep my leftovers. My fridge is chock full of gonal f ATM :lol:

I think I get a new pen of Gonal F for free (covered by Medicare) each cycle. I'll let you guys know if I have some left over when I eventually get knocked up :).

It was orgalutran that HBA told me they would have partially covered if I had got it from the chemist with a prescription instead of directly from the clinic...
