AF and painful bowl movements..... normal? possible TMI

So AF has always been painful on and off even prior to DS. I only get AF heavy for about 2 or 3 days and then she just lingers for another 5 days or so. Since having DS I often get O pains.

The last few mnths AF has been getting worse, about 2 mnths ago she came 10 days early :o but came as normal now (I am usually a 28/29 day cycle by the clock - I think a friend may have brought me on) but the 2nd day (my heaviest day) I am getting really bad cramping (it feels like it starts at the top of my uterus and works it way down) and for the first 3 days or so it really hurts when I need to poo or urinate. My bowels are pretty regular but when AF arrives it is all over the place and I tend to get a bit constipated around AF. The straighter I stand the more it hurts and cramps, I spent most of the weekend curled up in bed. I do take nurofen for the pain... could they be causing some problems?

Should I see someone? does anyone have any clues as to why this is happening?

Actually yes, I spoke to my Obs about it before my lap surgery, as it can indicate endo on your bowels. Thankfully I didn't have any endo.

My mum thinks it could be endo/pcos too (she's a nurse) but I don't really know that much about it. I also had a c/ section with DS and wondered if that might have anything to do with it... mmm I probably should go see someone about it *sigh*

I've experienced this too. I have no advice though, but it's been this way since AF first visited at age 11. :hug: You're not alone.

Oh wow could it really be linked to pcos? Because it always happens to me but i assumed it was normal! Wow thats nice to know.

Could be endometriosis... I get the same thing, can be very, very ouchy :(

Or it could also be that the hormones that make your uterus contract and relax during AF effects (or is it affects? Lol) your bowel muscles too.

yes - I have endo and pcos and quite often if you have one you have the other as they are both hormone related. I had a lap done 4 years ago to remove endo and the pain has been heaps better since then. I would go and get checked out by your doc who can give you a referral to a gyno who may be able to give you stronger pain meds or do some investigations. Good luck :)

I had the same thing - it was endo on my bowel and bladder, since I had it removed, it no longer is an issue - though weeing does occasionally still cause a twinge. The bowel pain for me was excrutiating just before I had my lap - almost in tears crying and no looking forward to having to do a poo type pain.
