In sooo much trouble! (with my Mum)

... I haven't told my Mum yet that we are moving. :o And I will probably be in tree-town from tonight with the kids, starting work next Monday up there.

I haven't told her because I can imagine her reaction. Yelling, screaming, or just the plain silent treatment, or name calling. Or D) all of the above. :cry: She stresses me out so much. She had a huge go at me when we moved here, because before we were a comfortable drive for her. Now, its an extra half hour or so, and "families are supposed to move closer together, NOT further apart". Tree town is going to be three and a half hours or so past where we are now.

I did tell her a couple of weeks ago, no last week, when I spoke to her that we are moving, but she didn't ask where to, so I didn't say. I guess I probably should have.

Oh well, time to bite the bullet.... Wish me luck. I am alomost crying now before I even pick up my phone!

Thanks guys. I'm putting it off again, unitl later (as in when I'm probably in the other house), as I just rang the Man for some ideas as what to say. He said to pack and worry about it later. OKAY! And I hate packing!

You are not responsible for managing your mother's feelings and emotions (or reactions...)

You are entitled to finish a conversation if you need to (including if she is being disrespectful, abusive, shouting, manipulative or if it is not going anywhere) and you are entitled to finish a converstaion even if she wants to continue it.

You have made a decision, and she has to respect that even if she does not accept or agree with it.

Tell her at least you're not Raupe who moved to the other side of the world. Yep, mum isn't happy having to fly 27 hours just to see me..... So tell your mum to suck it up, it could be worse!! ;)

I guess she's not coping well with the empty nest. I think if she wants the family to move closer together, she should move herself because you of course have your life to live :)

Could you even try the old, "but I told you ages ago mum and you thought it was great."? It might baffle her into forgetting to grill you further.

If it helps, I still haven't told my mum we've sold our house and she has decided she's coming to visit in 3 weeks' time. (Damn inconvenient for us, but good for her.)
