Have you had ongoing throat/ear/adenoid problems? HELP!

I have had this problem for around 10 weeks now. Have had abx, have tried gargling, vitamin c etc etc. I am in the care of a wonderful dr, bu I wanted to put it out there to see if anyone has had similar problems before, because we can't work out what is going on.

NB I am 30 weeks pregnant.

Symptoms: very sore throat every night without fail. Often includes very sore inner ear. When I wake up in the middle of the night, it's still there, but by morning it's ok. Gets gradually worse over the day.

The pain is a stabbing pain when I swallow, cough and especially when I cry (which I try not to do LOL!). It is only on one side.

The pain started a week after a cold finished. I've also had a cold since and I got the normal sore throat on top of this - they are different kinds of pain if that makes sense. When I look at pictures of heads, it looks like the pain is where my adenoids are. But I am having no problems with breathing etc. In fact, apart from being exhausted, I have no other symptoms.

The whole thing is just so puzzling. I can't work out if it's an infection/allergy/reflux etc etc and it's really getting me down. I've even wondered if I have thrush in my ear! Everything that is visible (throat, ear etc) look normal albeit a bit red.

I may need to go to an ENT, but it will be about a 6 week wait. So I'd like to try something to fix it before then! Would love to know if anyone has experienced something similar.

Sounds similar to my sinus problems, my sinuses were impacted it caused an earache and the eustachen tubes from my nose to throat were painfull each morning. I had a scan done and had surgery. My problems were caused by the pregnancies and not being able to take much. Try a nasal rinse and see if that helps, you get a kit at the chemist.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this problem, I hope it goes away but if it doesn't you really should see the ENT. I tend to have issues with my ears/sinuses, pain and loss of hearing at times, apparently it's a problem with congestian in my tiny eustacian tubes. I have found that nasal decongestants (eg Beconase spray) are effective, but you would need to check if they 're ok in pg. When I was pg I used a saline nasal spray religiously (Fess) which made a huge difference. And there's always the rinse option, the kit comes with a squeezy bottle and instructions, worth a try IMO given how good mild saline works for problems with the mouth/throat.

I am going thru exactly the same thing at the moment :( i had a really sore throat and ever since i have been having sinus probs. I have had 4 lots of antibiotics not including a week of injectin to clear it. I doen have a runny nose or sore throat noe but have some ear pain my left sinus is painful to touch :(

this has been going on for me for about 2 months now :(

I read something last night and thought of you. Apparently fenugreek seed tea is particularly good for this area.

It could be a number of things so seeing an ENT if it continues is a good idea... I know for me part of the problems were some food allergies that I was constantly getting ear/ throat and sinus infections that antibiotics would not clear up. I am not saying it iss this by any means but just saying could be a number of causes for that sort of stuff. Also for clearing the sinuses I recently purchased a sinus rinse as someone suggested on here to me, not the nicest to use but works great. Hope you feel better soon.

We have some Fess at home so I will try some before bed. I have also half suspected food allergies but it's a bit overwhelming to go there (in terms of elimination diet etc), but I will do some food experiments this week and see what happens!

Thanks for asking hun. I went to ENT but he couldn't see anything - at least I know there isn't anything serious lurking in there. Will just have to wait until baby comes and hope that it's pregnancy-related! xo
