Feeling a bit down tonight

I'm just having a bit of a sulk sorry guys needed to vent a bit.

Went and saw the OB today for usual visit and Bad news, OB is concerned about my BP. It has been rising steadily for the last few weeks and he is talking about possibility of induction if it keeps going.

I have a mild case of Cholestasis which while hasn't bothered me for a while now, is also concerning him.

Good news is bubs is fine, growth is good, lots of movement etc. I have to go for another check up and urine test on tuesday and friday next week. urine test today was clear but they are concenred about headaches and visual disturbances I've had, only mild but they are still there. I guess they are concerned I might develop Pre-Eclampsia. Double damn when I was feeling so well.

Anyone else been in this situaton? I'm considering discussing with him C/S as well next visit, seeing as I'm not keen to be in an emergancy situation and I'm worried if they induce and I'm not dialated or my cervix isn't favorable I'll end up there anyway.

Awww, Luv....all I can say is I understand and I think in situations like this all we can do is keep busy, stay positive and let ourselves feel crappy when we feel crappy.

I was induced with DD1 due to increased blood pressure. My mum developed PE so it was a risk for me too. DD took a LONG time to arrive - 34 hours - but my OB was happy to let things take their course without pushing it so long as my blood pressure stayed under control.

Try not to stress (easier said than done I know). Get as much rest as you can, keep your feet up, keep hydrated and eat as healthily as you can before your next visit and hopefully you will have stabilised a bit and your OB will be happy to leave you be. Good luck.

I had PE with my first child and severe cholestasis with my second, so hello.

I completely understand what you're going through. Allow yourself to experience the stages of grief as you mourn the loss of control over your birth. The final stage is acceptance and when you get there it is quite liberating, but don't be hard on yourself.

I just want to say, with cholestasis alone the best choice is delivering the baby early. I don't want to alarm you but there's a 15% increased chance of stillbirth which is significant. Add PE to your mix and you're really looking at a high risk scenario.

I desperately wanted an all natural water birth and did everything, EVERYTHING to get there, but my body just fails me in pregnancy. However, I have 2 beautiful healthy babies and that really is all that matters.

My baby girl was induced at 37.5 weeks. The induction went smoothly, but the amniotic fluid was thick with meconium. My ob told me at my 6 week check up how lucky we were. I already knew it in my heart, but to hear it from him made me realise that everything that happened was worth it.

I developed cholestasis in week 37 but in the begining didn't know what it was. Probably had the itching for a few days but just thought it might go away and then had my OB appointment so thought I'd say it then. Minute I mentioned the itching to my OB out came the pad and he sent me off for a blood test. The moment the results came back he was on the phone getting me back in straight away to discuss what we would do. His advice was better out than in for bub. While he gave me something to take to relieve the itching it was just not good for the baby to potentially be getting the increased salt in the blood travelling over the placenta. At this stage I was 37 + 6. (DS was IVF baby so we knew dates were exact).

Bub hadn't engaged yet and my cervix was still long and closed (I think this was the terms they used) so his recommendation was CS. He said he could induce but that he didn't believe I would end up delivering naturally. While I had always wanted to try natural delivery I didn't think it was really about me any more and what I wanted and more about what was best for bub so agreed to CS and had my darling DS at 38 weeks.

I won't lie and say that I haven't any regrets about not being able to at least try to give birth naturally as I have. And I think that, on top of the fact that he was an IVF bub probably played a part in how I dealt with problems we had establishing breast feeding but I still believe that it was the right thing to do. My recovery from the CS was perfect (in fact I said if this is major surgery bring it on!).

My advice for what its worth is you have gone through almost 9 months to get to where you are today and how you give birth to your darling baby is only one tiny part of the amzing journey of motherhood that you are about to embarke on. How our babies come into this world doesn't make us a better or a worse mother than the next person. Do what is right for your little one whatever that may be. :hug: Hope it all works out well for you.

I'm drinking lots of water and resting in the hopes this will help with my fluid levels. I'll let you know how I go on tuesday.

Good news! My blood pressure isn't any higher today yay! My ob is happy to leave it another week and see how I am. He did say he isn't keen to let me go way overdue only becuase of the BP etc but at least I am not getting any worse :)

I went for a walk to celebrate LOL Come on Jelly bean you can do it !

this sounds alot like my last pregnancy, had terrible high liver function results and high BP that led to induction and after 30 hours I was not past 2cm and had an emergency c section. My advice would be to wait, I have regretted being "forced" into something I never wanted, what was another 12 days going to do to me? prob nothing, hang in there! not long to go!

Excellent news. Take it as easy as you can for the next few days and look after yourself as much as you can.

That's great if you can keep your blood pressure under control, but I'm concerned about your cholestasis.

The other women telling you to hold in there and not give up don't realise how dangerous cholestasis is.

As I said, it has a 15% increased risk of stillbirth with no warning. You can have a scan showing a healthy baby and 2 hours later...

Having had it myself and had a very close call, it's not something I would ignore if I were you.

The midwives at hospital told me they've seen the worst with cholestasis. Is it worth the risk?

My OB seems ok with the Cholestatis as I'm not itching at the moment, hence the caution I think. He does ask me every appointment about how it's been going but it's been settled for awhile. He didn't say 15% increased risk, however did say there is an increased risk but it wasn't that high from the chat we had?

Mine is very mild, I only had the itching twice in the entire pregnancy the rest of the time its been pretty non existant, but certainly something to keep an eye on.

I don't feel forced I was just dissapointed that everything was leading towards non natural start to the labor. My OB has never given me reason to doubt his decisions and he always practises evidence based medicine so I think if he thinks it is best to do so I would most likely listen to him. He dosen't think there is a need to induce right now so I trust him. That might change next week. He is hoping I go into Labor this week heh :) Hopefully all will be ok.

I had the cholestatis too and I never got the itching. Trust your Ob, If there was any real danger I am sure he wouldn't let you walk out of the office. bub and I were a bit jaundiced but other than that all was ok. I am no Dr though, just an RN. ;) but if you do itch make sure you call him!

Yep definatley will :) I told him today that if it comes, it only is a bit on arms and legs is mild and is gone pretty quickly and he seems fine with that. He has said to me one of the reasons he is concerned is that while BP isn't sky high (but getting higher) combined with the Cholestatis it can all get on top of you in the last few weeks and he isn't keen to push my body too hard by letting me go too far over due, due to the risks and that makes sense to me.

I'm keeping an eye on bubs movements too, which are mostly stretching and pushing now rather than kicks etc but are currently regularly happening all day.

I'm confused, did you have blood tests to determine cholestasis, or is it just itching?

I had a great ob who knew I wanted a natural birth and wasn't pushing an early induction. When I had the first blood test the bile acid results were 8 (whatever unit being measured) for cholestasis, but I knew it had progressed so I pushed for further blood tests and an earlier induction. My ob didn't think it was necessary, but he didn't argue about further blood tests. The next tests the bile acids had shot up to 48. He quickly agreed to the earlier induction. I don't know how exactly, but I just knew it was bad because I was so itchy, it was hell.

Anyway, hopefully you do go into labour naturally. I did my best to prepare my body for induction using evening primrose oil. In case you do need to be induced, try to aim for the best case scenario by doing what you can now to prepare.
