Parties..

Not sure if this is in the right section mods, sorry if i got it wrong.

Does anyone else get irritated at tupperwear parties and the like... ?? Or am I a loner?

I'm so sick of them... and I'm so confused as to why people keep creating these events!

For years I have been apart of a group of women.. They have party, after party, after party...
If one has a tupperwear party, two will book a party through that, and invite the exact same women. I kid you not, the exact same group of people as what was at the inital party. Does anyone else find this rude?? It blows me away.


I've been to tupperwear parties, adult shop parties, linen parties, learning ladder parties - all of them I've attended atleast 3 times, with the exact same group of women. Makes me want to scream!

Fast forward. The group of women hadn't had a party for a while. So I decided to have my VERY FIRST party (ever). And chose to have a body shop party. We had never done the body shop, but i lurrve body shop junk, and know their parties are far from the usual. I decided to have the foot party, where everyone got a foot treatment.

Oh man.,.. these women gobbled it up, they loved it! Talked about it for atleast a week.

I'm regretting it. Because GUESS WHAT!?! Yep you guessed it. Since my party, 3 people from the group, have decided to create their own body shop party. I kid you not. Inviting the exact same people. So my body shop party, has quickly expanded into 4.

Is this unusual?? Are my group of friends odd for doing this?
Am I obliged to now purchase something from their parties??
This has just got out of hand..... surely you agree?
Or am I just a big fat whinger??

To each their own I say...but I kinda find it rude that *friends* expect you to go to these parties....well, mine did...until they got the message hehe

Eh, if they're having fun and want to buy stuff that way - not my cup of tea though! I wouldn't feel obliged to attend, let alone buy anything unless you want to.

A few of the girls in my social circle do the party thing while the boys come along to hang out, drink scotch and talk about bs...I usually wind up outside with the boys (sans the scotch atm though) as the conversation is usually more interesting :lol:

I am so sorry but I am sitting here laughing myself silly at your post! So funny and I totally agree with you. I would be going crazy if I was in your position!!

I went to a tupperware party and was baffled why everyone was telling me to host one, 'I would save $$ on something', and I thought 'well I've already agreed to buy what I want and my friend can have the points, she's the one who's put on the food etc'...I would have invited nearly the same people and spent probably double on nibbles etc compared to what I would save...

Luckily my friends and I don't need an excuse to get together except for a big hunk of cheese and a few bottles of wine ;)

he,he.....so very true for many! I guess often those selling the stuff stick to friends for parties. Who then get their friends to have parties and it keeps going around. Some love it as they get freebies, others just love the get togethers.

I lived in a small town where one friend sold body shop, here sister and then another friend Learning Ladder and a really good friend from playgroup sold Tupperware - parties galore!!

It happens with me and my friends. Nutrimetics has just done the rounds, but I wasn't invited to any cause they all know I am allergic to it. Same applied to body shop which was prior to that.

I used to do Tupperware myself, quit over a year ago, so thought I'd host a T/ware party for tomorrow. Only 2 confirmed that they were coming so I have just cancelled it.

The party thing sucks. I've hardly been to any but I always feel like I 'have to' buy something to kind of support my friend kwim. The last one was a body shop one and my friend took ages getting the stuff to me so I was annoyed that I even purchased to help her out! Mind you a T/ware party would be great as I need stacks of the stuff! If anyone invites me to one that is! I also think it's bizzar that the same woman are going to the same parties??? Weird!

My friends don't seem to be party people. Great normally, but bad when I do decide to host one as then I rarely get any guests.

They are fun every so often, but like you I would be driven nuts if I had to got to them all the time.

This was me about 12 - 18 months ago ... I just couldn't afford to be going to everyones parties, they drove me nuts. Then some of them started doing evening ones around 7pm so it was great, I couldn't go because it was DD bedtime and I needed to home with her so I could BF her. Because its a 30min drive into town where most live even if I wanted to go AFTER DD was asleep it would still all be over :D

I don't mind the odd one here or there but i HATE tupperware, I just cannot stand the products they flog. I don't like the multiple makeup ones either.

I have never been to a learning Ladders one and as I now have a kiddie and another on the way, that is far more practical than makeup or plastic.

i flat out refuse to go to any of them so people have stopped inviting me. i just say 'i don't do 'insert brand here' parties'. if i want to buy something i just go to the shops and buy it, i don't need to be guilted into it by friends.

I make a habit of telling them upfront that I have no need for plastic tubs / new bras / overpriced books / ridiculously expensive scrapbooking stuff / whatever but if they need the numbers to fill their "bums in seats" quota, I am happy to come along, eat their cheese, drink their wine and have a fun night ...

Thankfully, my main group of friends hardly ever have these sorts of things - but they do the rounds at work and in our mum's group, so I'm just really honest about the fact that I'm not going to spend a cent, I'm not going to book a party of my own, but am happy to come along for the ride :)

I've never had any negative response from that sort of thing (other than the occasional rep doing the actual selling, when I've won some of the games, got the prizes, and then won't make any purchases or bookings...)

I only buy stuff if I want to. I often buy the sale stuff and use it for presents. I wouldn't be too stressed about it - go and have a nice time with your friends, but only buy if you want to. Maybe others feel the same way and the craze might peter out a bit?

But yes it is a funny situation! Maybe you could suggest all going out to high tea or something to try to break the cycle?

I refuse to go to any of them. I feel guilty if I don't buy anything.

I'm going to a Thermomix one in a few weeks. I don't usually get excited about these sorts of things, and tend to not go, but I am quite ecstatic about the Thermomix one. I can't wait!

Generally I find them annoying, and boring.

We've had a few, but I actually know quite a few ppl who are "consultants" for the different direct sales companies so our group just order direct with them if we want something, without the hassle of a party :) I ordered 4 tupperware baby wipes containers this week, didn't need to have/go to a party to get them!

this is the way i work with most of my friends
i am a sales consultant for partylite (candles) but i haven't done a "party" (as in, at a house) in almost two years (DD was a baby and a friend wanted one) - i am happy to put together orders for people - and i stay active cos i like my discounts - but i just can't be bothered doing the hard sell

having said that - if you want to earn money from it (rather than support your own habit like me lol) you want groups like this that have party after party. even if there is only one new person at the second/third party in that group of friends, it's a potential new lead. a potential new group of friends to branch into.

i suck at doing the hard sell - i honestly believe you either love the stuff or you dont - so i never attached that much to the booking side of things - but for some WAHM's, this is their only source of income, and it can be damn tiring, so they need the interest in groups like this.

i just tend to email a few friends the specials each month, tell them if i'm putting in an order etc. no pressure from me (and my upline manager has stopped putting pressure on me lol).

if you're not interested, just say so - but you kinda can't ask people to come and join you at your party to get the benefits and then not expect a return invitation if they book from your party (and that's how party play works - there are more discounts for the hostess if there is another booking - so the "pressure" is there for your friends to book from you - so it's not too much of an ask for you to attend to make up numbers kwim? they helped you save money/get freebies - making up numbers isn't that hard a job)

Maybe they have nothing better to do or talk about? :dunno:

I was just recently badgered into a Tupperware one. And the Tupperware lady was trying to get us to go to the info night so we could all become Tupperware consultants! It's like they are forming a cult or something :lol:

Bwahaahahahahaa, the Cult of Tupperware, where thou shalt worship the plastic goddess with the air-tight containers...

Is it bad that as a result of my scotch-drinking antics outside with the lads I don't actually own any tupperware at all?
