I am having a knee reco on Thurs. I had one 10 years ago and it was the worst pain of my life. Basically that surgeon did a botch job, and I paid the price for the last 10 years.
Childbirth is a 10000 times easier than this surgery, and there will be months of rehab to come.
Plus last time I didn't have tHe two munchkins to care for.

:( Poor you, that sounds like no fun at all. One of the students I study with had a knee reco a few months ago and was back on her feet really quickly. Hopefully you will be similarly luck and find that this time around it is a much easier recovery for you :hug:
:hug: I hope it goes well and you get the best possible results. Surgical methods have evolved a lot in the last 10 years, and so have painkillers, this experience will be very different from the last time. Ask for help when you need it. :hug:

A guy I work with had a knee reconstruction about 3 weeks ago. He was on crutches for a week and a half and has been fine ever since. He said he didn't need a lot of pain relief after the first two days.

here's hoping this time, you will get a perfectionist medico, not a dodgy one. I wish you a speedy recovery.
I would treat it like having a baby, you know you'll be out of action, so maybe
- automate what you can (bill paying, cleaner, shopping delivered),
- do ahead what you can (stocking pantry/freezer with pre=cooked meals, stocking up on non-perishables e.g loo paper),
- let people in your support network (if you are lucky enough to have them, not everyone does) know about your op (they might offer playdates/walk the dog whatever needs doing).
- use paper plates to cut down on dishwashing?
i'm guessing the five yo might be in kindy or school, can you optimise childcare/daycare (or increase it) for the duration of your post op time , for the two year old? Both of those still need the drop off/pick ups. Unless you have friends/family members who would do that for you. Or family/friends who would look after one or two children for you each day.

you have a legitimate reason for being scared, you have had ten years to understand how it can go wrong, i don't blame you for being scared, i would be too. Let the hospital know you have had a prior bad experience. I hope you have faith in the surgeon who will operate on you THIS time.

Thanks everyone. I have been freezing meals in advance. So at least there is food that the kids love that is healthy still but low preparation.
I have actually ordered Lite n easy dinners for me for the first week, so that will help too. The kids will be away from Friday till the following Tuesday (cup day). Then DH is on a run of night shifts, and SIL will stay at night when DH is not home.
I have done shopping for DH's birthday and my dad's 70th, as I won't be able to drive to get them presents otherwise. Also I am lucky that one of the Kindy mums will drive DS.
Anyway, still not looking forward to it, and I really like the surgeon. He has a great reputation ( does a lot of AFL guys) and he is nice on the eye! (think George Clooney type.)
I hope that the experience will be better with someone who does a proper job! Good luck with it!!
My Mum has had knee operations, and the recovery can be pretty full on. Hoping your op goes as smoothly as possible and you get help with pain relief.

FWIW i was in LESS pain the day after my knee reco than the day before i had it done.
walking unaided within a week and that was done 11 years ago
how they do them these days is amazing and so much less envasive
you wont believe how much pain you are putting up with until it is gone!

sounds like he is getting heaps of practise, so by the time he does YOUR knee, it will be a doddle for him, easy peasy.:

OP done. Home now. Bit sore but ok. I had really bad nausea due to being given Codiene based meds after I told them it makes me sick. So I didn't get home till late afternoon yesterday.
I didn't get out of surgery until 9:30pm, so Thursday was a looooooong day.
Glad you are back home now!! Grrr at them giving you codeine though :wall:
