Just curious how many follicles you think would be the most you would have and still go ahead with an IUI (or how many frosties you'd put back in an FET) if you could choose?
Our current FS says 3 is the upper limit, the last one said 2, but in the states people are doing IUI's with like 6 or 8. It's crazy. Your thoughts?
I am young enough to handle twins, I think, but anything more than that makes me too nervous for the health of the babies.
I didn't have to worry about the number of follicles with our IUI because it was cancelled when Clomid caused my lining to thin out. But with our first IVF cycle our FS would only allow 1 ET, we pleaded with them for 2 ET on our next IVF cycle and we had to sign a waiver form before they would consider it. But that IVF cycle we ended up cancelling also because of OHSS and getting really sick. This FET we are on now, we wanted 2ET but the FS wouldn't allow it, seeing how we have had complications previously. I think it just depends on a case by case basis and the rules and regulations of the clinic you go to. Good luck with your cycle, hope you get a BFP :)
My FS cancelled my second IUI with four follicles. Three was his limit, and to be honest I didn't really question him about why the number three. I have to admit I probably would have freaked out the whole 2ww if I had gone ahead with four!
My FS also encouraged only one transfer for my IVF transfer, but it was a fresh not frozen transfer. I would really love for my frozen transfer to do two embies, but I can practically hear my FS argument against in my head now!! Logically I know I'm still young and don't need to rush things, and I get the risks associated with carrying multiples (not to bothered about actually HAVING twins, just the complications freak me out!!)
I too have heard of patients overseas transferring CRAZY numbers of embies. It amazing how standards can vary so much in other countries!! I guess it depends so much on your personal circumstances. I guess the drive o be successful will make people agree to crazy things.
Do we have the right to go ahead with more than three if it is against our FS wishes? I think, but could be wrong, but I think they are governed by law. Is that right?
M, I know there are laws regarding number of embies transferred for IVF. Perhaps there are similar for iui. It would make sense.
We went ahead with five dominant follicles on both cycles we did of IUI on the lowest dose of puregon...cycle one BFN, cycle two our little boy.....Our first scan at 6.5 weeks showed two gestational sacs and only one heartbeat, so technically we had conceived twins but only one viable one. I have had quite a few miscarriages however and our FS was playing calculated odds that quite a few of the eggs would be dodgy and not fertilise...seems he was right on the money!
I wouldnt go by anything they do in the States - when i once asked FS how something as ridiculous as "Octo-mum" could possibly happen, he said its because they are so unregulated, that so many dodgy practices go on.
I have no IUI experience, but with our IVF, FS would only put back 1 blasty. On our last cycle (which was cancelled due to natural BFP) i had convinced him that we should have 2 but he only agreed due to the fact i just turned 40 and time was running out. I think we would have signed a waiver for him to do that, and i would have been petrified of twins - not just being able to cope when they were born, but also the risks associated with carrying them.

We are CD7 today with 3 follies... 16.5, 16 and 13.5, with two smaller ones, 11 I think. We are having another scan on thursday (CD9) to check the two small ones haven't caught up, then triggering, IUI on Friday (CD10) hopefully with three follies. I'm nervous. 3 seems a lot...
There was one cycle we DTD when we knew we had 3 follies but that was when we werent using IUI and I knew we had cervical factor so no real chance. This time I know IUI works for us so it's a much bigger risk.
