Hi Everyone, its been a while since i've visited.. I have a 9 month old DS that i can't get to roll over! He has done it 3 times all when he was really frustrated one week ago since then i can't get it to happen again.. What do i do?? My Maternal nurse wants me to go to Physio, can't afford it.. So if anyone has had the same/similar problem can they give me some tips please...

Can he sit? Or does he crawl or commando crawl? Any other kinds of moving?
Thanks for replying! He sits for maybe 10 seconds unsupported then he will lean to the side and fall! He cannot crawl at all just lies on his tummy can't pick his bottom off the ground unless i do it then will slide forward kind of on his face!! He will sit longer if a pillow is at his back...
When on his back he bangs his legs and feet up and down and he will turn 360, when on his tummy he can play with his toys he is ok for about 10 15 mins then he starts crying out... so i'll lay on the floor with him distracting him until i can't stand the screaming!!
To be honest hun, I would be starting to worry that he can't roll, isn't sitting for longer periods unaided and unsupported and isn't moving around on his own (as in creeping around on his tummy, or crawling). Could you get in to see a paed or see your GP about your options if you don't have the finances to go to a physio? Maybe there is some sort of funding or something for these things.
My kids have all been sitting and moving around by this age (crawling), as well as pulling themselves to stand up. DS2 (who is 9mths old) is begining to cruise (walk holding onto furniture or people and stuff) around furniture and can stand for about 30-45sec on his own. I know several people with bubs around this age and they are all rolling, sitting and getting around by themselves.
Hmm 3LM, Ok thx, you have given me food for thought. I will just have to find the funds and get onto it... Was hoping there might be something that others had done to encourage their baby to get rolling at least. I pretty much only place him on his tummy unless i really need to get something done..mealtimes.. And spend time on my tum with him when he gets upset...

Sounds like you really do need to see someone. What state do you live in? If your in Victoria & can't afford a private physio you can get a referral from your GP to the children's hospital or a community rehab centre. Isis primary care have a physio might be a bit of a waitlist. Check with your gp though about what is in your community. Best of luck x
Hun you really need to see someone, as delays in gross motor skills can have lasting effects if not helped. Please see GP for referal to a hospital physio. Depending if there are any other concerns (not sure where in melb you are but most areas will have similar things) sunshine hospital has a developmental clinic that does assessments on kids and can offer physio, speech pathology etc.
Early intervention for these issues makes a huge difference.
The sad thing is that there is LONG wait lists for all of these services.
At 18 months my DS1 was not walking or talking so we got a referal and took 2 months to get appt for assessment at developmental clinic (MCHN refered me) and then in mean time he started walking but was still delayed in speech. We waited 12 months for appt with speech pathology.

I'd get him seen. I'm a big believer in letting them take there time and after four I can say for sure that they all do things at their on pace. My dd was born end December do almost the same age. She has rolled four times in her life. She doesn't really crawl but can get on all fours for ages. She can sit. She Islas also started to pull herself up to stand. She can't not do it she is just super lazy as she has three older kids that do everything for her.
Sounds like you little one could use done exercises. That same nurse should be able to refer you to the hospital physio and that way it will be free :)

i also hold him a lot, he is a very snuggly baby...
oh and he does have 2 older sisters...does he just have us all wrapped around his finger?
He really objects to being on his tummy for extended periods...and cries then if i let him cry it out just drops his head to the floor on the side and cries! how long shld i let him do that, maybe i just don't leave him long enough?? i pick him up once he drops his head to the floor...
on a good note he can stand when i hold him under his armpits and bounces...

i am so glad i msged here! Everyone has been super helpful! What a long wait.. I'd better get onto it, i don't want him to be too behind... if there is some exercises i can do with him.. As i have mentioned, below he does have 2 big sisters, are we all taking too good a care of him?? Do i need to leave him a bit?

Tillie, I don't think you need to leave him to cry or anything, I seriously doubt he's not moving because he wants you to pick him up. Rolling, crawling and moving should all be innate to him. He should just do it (considering he's able to). Which is why it is a concern that he's not. Though like Tegam, I think all children meet milestones when and if they are ready. At this age babies don't take 'advantage' they don't undersand things like that yet. They want their needs met, and that is all. Not meeting milestones is something that is worrying because it could imply other issues.
Yeah, what 3littlemonkeys said. I pick my daughter up and carry her pretty much everywhere, and always get on top of her crying ASAP. And she sits, crawls, the whole kit and caboodle. She's seven months...
Lie Him on tummy on floor and put a fav toy beside him but far enough away he can't grab it without moving.
Some children do not roll as they sit and then crawl but I am concerned that he is not doing any of this. Has your MCHN done a Brigance test?? this is a secondary test that can be used to determine issues if concerns raised on PEDS (booklet you fill out at each appt)
I also do not think he is crying to get picked up, leaving him longer wont make him do things as he will just get more upset.
