Type of teat for comp feeding

Just wanted to ask anyone who comp feeds, what flow teats you use? I've been using slow-flow/1-hole newborn teats because I read that these are best for breastfed bubs and can help prevent the baby developing a preference for the bottle. However, DS is 3 months old now and I think he's getting frustrated at the bottle - he's started making clicking noises as he drinks and the teat is collapsing under the force of his suck. Will moving up to a 2-hole teat be to the detriment of breastfeeding, do you think? I began comp feeding (after lots of breastfeeding difficulties) knowing that it could end up a slow weaning process, but I do want to breastfeed for as long as I possibly can and don't want to make the wrong choice here... Thanks for any advice!

do you just need to get new newborn teats - they do go soft and squidgy after a while, especially if you are sterilizing them.
My DS had EBM from a bottle for quite a while - and used the 2 and 3 hole teats, but he was such a boob-monster that there was no danger of a preference developing.

Miss P uses the Avent bottles for her comp feeds. We use the number 2 teats, which came with the bottles. I did buy some number 4 teats about a month ago, but she choked on it and shoved the bottle at me in utter disgust! She has refused the faster teats each time I have offered them, so we'll just stick with the 2's.

Like the PP, my bub is a boobie monster and has always had a preference for the breast so I don't worry that she'll prefer the bottle if it is faster or 'easier'.

I use Pigeon bottles with the Perestaltic Teat as recommended by my LC to help stop nipple confusion and stop her suckling changing from what she should be doing on the breast. Seems to be ok so far.

I used tommee tippee closer to nature and never had a problem between breast or bottle,i also had to move up about 4 months as DS was taking so long it was like he was even getting tired and not finishing 120 mls where as now he guns down 150ms and seems happier,im not sure how it all works becuase your nipple size doesnt change does it?but yet they need faster flowing teats my DS also did the whole sucking so hard the teat was nearly inside out,i guess all you could do is try and see if it makes a difference if its putting him off the breast then could always change back?hope it works out!

I only used a size one teat (Avent) with DD, right up until she stopped BF just before her first birthday then I switched to the size two.

If the teat is collapsing for your DS then yeah, you may need to change teats. I've had many friends have success with both Avent and Tommee Tippee bottles and teats so I think it's just a matter of finding out what works for your LO.

We have now changed to tommee tippee 1 size as DD wanted a faster flow. She does collapse the nipple but that seems to be because it is such a soft teat compared to the Pigeon ones.

We use the first years 'breastflow' bottles. They have really unique teats specificallly designed for ebm and comp feeding. I had never seen anything like them before. Google them. You Can buy them on eBay ( along with the pumps too ).
