How long is reasonable to be waiting for your home phone line to be repaired? It's been a week that we know of but I suspect it wasn't working a few days before that based on someone telling me the phone rang out when we have the answering machine switched on all the time.
I'll be ringing the ombudsman's office tomorrow, but I'm interested in hearing what everyone thinks is a reasonable wait.
When did you report it?
A week ago ... BUT it happened immediately after we changed phone providers. Who plugs in a phone connection without checking that it works??!
This is on top of having next to no internet connectivity for the last 7 weeks.
Should have been done by now. Do you have a cooling off period with your new provider? I'd be taking them up on it!
Id hope they would sort it out within 48hrs, a week seems way too long. I couldnt believe it a couple of months ago I had a problem with our phone line, called telstra and to my absolute shock :o someone was there within half an hour and it was fixed about 15 minutes after that!. I would also call the company again and threaten the ombudsman and try and get them to give you a time frame to fix it
We had issues with our phone line for 2 months. Everytime we called up they said they were fixing the problem, must have been a whopper problem to take 2 months to fix!
I would have cracked the ****s after 3 days! Does anyone in your house have medical issues, telling them someone has asthma/epilepsy/heart condition etc usually gets things fixed within 24 hours!

Who are you with? I agree that threatening the ombudsman should work (it has for me before). So annoying for you though. Hope it gets fixed soon.
We had problems with our phone line a few years back and unless you have a life threatening condition that requires you to need a phone to call an ambulance etc such as asthma or a heart condition etc, then they don't usually have a quick turn around time on fixing them. We were without ours for just over a week, but when MIL had problems recently she had hers fixed within 24hrs because she has a heart condition. Plus they 'assume' that everyone has a mobile phone these days anyway and doesn't need a landline. But I would still be calling them to hurry them up - you don't have a problem with your line that needs fixing so there is absolutely no good reason why it should take this long.
i would be on the phone to you're ph provider and their complaints departments.....explain that no one bothered to check the line was working, give them a deadline to come out and fix if they dont tell them you will be taking it further
i had problem with my phone line when we moved in....it took me alot of fighting to get them to finally fix it then they had the balls to charge me $300 for putting in a new phone without even asking me
