Frustrating! How do I deal with this?

DS1 has been toilet trained during the day for several months now, wears undies throughout the day (including during his day sleep) and tells us when he needs to go to the toilet. Just this past week, he has had several 'accidents' in his pants or on the floor. DH and I actually feel like he's doing it on purpose, maybe for attention (even if it is negative) as we have been quite occupied with his newborn brother. My question is, how do I deal with this?? We have been getting quite upset with him when we does it as we know he is well practiced in recognising the need to go and uses the toilet confidently at home and out and about. BUT, is this the right thing to do? Should we be telling him off or ignoring it and just cleaning it up? I'm so frustrated by this as he keeps doing it on either the floor rugs or the couches :(

Tough one. Sounds like he is acting up b/c of a new baby brother. I tried a few different things with my DD & in the end, I just made no big deal out of it and that seemed to be a better response than getting cranky at her. GL

My DS has been doing the same thing. We made a sticker chart and he gets a sticker when he uses the toilet or potty. If we need to up the bribery I keep a packet of choc buttons in the cupboard. It seems to be working.

We got DS to help clean up the wee. And there was no telly when he weed on the couch (because there was nowhere to watch it while the couch dried.....). It will get better!

hmmm,

maybe get him more involved with the baby?

My 4 and half yr old decided yesterday to pee on his pj's while they were on the floor...

I just tell him that he knows not to do that and he is a big boy now....

my Dh on the other hand....he is alot more strict....telling him off,etc

hmmm :dunno: attention is attention whether it be negative or positive.
Would it reinforce the point better to not make a huge deal of the accidents and just remind him that the successes please you far more? Maybe in conjunction with the sticker chart and reminding him how grown up he is compared to bub?
