Any ideas whats wrong with our dog?

I just need some advice guys. We are making an appointment for the Vets tomorrow but in the mean time.....

Our dog, shes a bull mastiff x and getting old has gone a bit 'odd' on us. She runs up under the verandah and wont come out, shes shivering like shes scared and ocassionally lets out a yelp. I have managed to coax her out but she doesnt want a bar of DH. She is acting almost scared of him and its kinda like she doesnt know who we are or she is scared of us :dunno:

Not off her food, still a bit of a chubba ;) and normal is every other way.

Im worried she might have cancer?? Any thoughts??

my first thought is maybe a nerve prob in her back. she might be sore and not want to be touched.

poor puppy... its sad when our furbabies are hurting.
hope the vet sorts her out.

It could be a sign that she's in pain, you really need to take her to the vets so they can rule out any obvious physical causes.

FWIW if she's old she might be going a bit senile. My vet brought this up as a possibility with our cat who wanders around the house meowing sometimes like she's lost.

Yep I agree with the other two, I would think pain first. My dog is 13 and has arthritis. I worked as a vet nurse for 13 years, so I kinda know the signs, but her first things were behaviour issues. Shaking in dogs is mainly a sign of pain over even chills. I personally would take her to a vet and get her checked over for arthritis and senility. Our old girl is now nearly completely deaf, and blind and has arthritis. Its sad seeing our furbabies grow old :hug:

If the vet does say is back pain and try Chiro or bowen therapy, we find that really good for my mums puppy (16 yo bull terrier x blue heeler with terrible arthritis and probs with his heart & lungs)

I wonder if it's an arthritic infection? I hope the vet can find what it is and give her some relief really quickly :( She sounds like a doll xxx

So we went to the Vet yesterday although she was having a great day, she did give Miss B a very thorough check up and said that for her age and breed she was in fabulous condition! Could not find anything except perhaps a small about of grinding in her back leg joints but she 'expected' that. So we have to watch for a week and if she isnt improving we are going to run a series of blood work. Im a bit happier with that at this stage, but she was a bit odd this morning again :dunno: The Vet also mentioned there had been several other dogs this week that have been brought in with similar symptoms??

In desperation a few years ago, I took my dog to an animal naturopath, who did a few different things to figure out a range of treatments that she gave me. Bach Flowers, homeopathics, some vitamins, acidophilus - she used a crystal to 'talk' to Odin (!! I did a lot of suspension of disbelief!) to come up with the treatments. Within 2 weeks his skin had cleared up and he was visibly happier.
If you're not happy in a little while, explore this option - costs about as much or less than a consult and meds at a vet clinic ;) My own vet, later on, conceded that traditional treatment couldn't fix everything and they'd heard of this lady and her success.
