I'm blind as a bat and my optometrist mentioned I would be a perfect candidate for laser eye surgery. Has anyone else had it done or have some experiences with it? We don't currently have PHI so I'd be looking at a bit of a wait publicly, which isn't a big deal to me. TIA
My sister had it 2ish years ago, she did it privately. She only did it because they had a half price special going (sounds dodgy lol) otherwise she wouldn't have afforded it... I think it was a few grand still. She had both eyes done at once, had to have a few days off work and obviously couldn't drive etc. She said it didn't hurt, just felt a bit weird and scratchy afterwards. It's healed up really quick and she had zero issues with it all. She is sooooo happy she did it, it has been a big boost to her confidence after wearing glasses since she was in kindy.

I plan on getting it done one day, but my eyes are still getting worse and i have to wait til they settle down before i can. in saying that, but time that happens i probably wont be able to afford it... =(
everyone who i have heard of having it done has been really impressed with the results and dont regret it at all.
I have had it, on my phone so can't type too much but all good and have done a detailed reply about it on BB before which will link when get home on Thursday. I had in UK and had to pay about 8 years ago, but I reckon have now saved the money in glasses and contacts. DH has also had done.
Haven't had it myself but am interested in the responses. DH is very short-sighted and I have astigmatism...
My SIL had it done last year - both eyes - and she's really happy. No issues post op and she is now glasses/contacts free.
my optomistrist want me to get it done, tbh, i dont want it, id rather deal with glasses, the whole if u accidently move ur blind thing doesnt do it for me ;)
a family friend had it done and they stuffed it up, apparently she should never have had it and theyre now taking the issue to court. she's nearly fully blind
My dad had both his eyes done about 2 months ago, they did one eye and then a couple weeks later did the other.
He is really happy with it and after years of glasses no longer has to wear them at all.

I had it done 8 years ago in South Africa, both eyes at the same time. I had to wear glasses / contact lenses all the time before I had the op so for me it was a life changing thing, I am so pleased with the results and couldn't imagine going back to glasses/contact lenses. If you are going to get it done do lots of research on the surgeon, as with any surgery you really want the best.
I had it done about 9 years ago. The process itself was quick and painless, with just a day or so recovery and I ended up with better than 20-20 vision. However, even though my eyesight had 'settled' beforehand (the prescription hadn't changed for 18 months), it started changing soon after the op and I started wearing glass for driving etc after about two years. It was nothing to do with the surgery itself, but if your eyesight is going to get worse, having laser eye surgery won't stop that, it only fixes the eyesight you have. I do find the glare worse now than before. Driving at dawn and dusk in particular are a pain! They have a 7 year guarantee, so would have redone it again for me for free, but I chose not to have it done. Having glasses doesn't bother me the same way it did when I was younger and the process is different the second time around (scarring etc makes it not quite as straightforward) and eyesight is not something I wanted to mess with iykwim! I'm still glad I had it done and would definitely recommend it.
My mum had it done about 5 years ago after wearing glasses since she was a young girl. She couldn't recommend it more highly! She's 65 now and wears glasses for reading (which most people that age do!), but not all the time.
I was considering it, but since the surgery only lasts about 10 years and you're back to wearing glasses, I thought against it.
A couple of people within DH's family have had it done (MIL, BIL) and one of my girlfriends and they all rave about it. Minimum recovery and great results. They all went private.
I did not realise that you were even able to get it done publicly - most laser surgeries are considered cosmetic and optional and therefore are unable to be done publicly. I could be wrong tho.:dunno:
My mum had it done - she still wears glasses for needlework and she had flaring with night driving so she doesn't like driving at night. On the whole though she is happy with it.
A girl at work just had it done, she says it's great. She was a bit fuzzy for a week, but now she is fine. They let her pay half and then she is paying the other half off.
I had it done about 6 years ago now...went from -4.75 in both eyes to 20/20 vision overnight.....I still have 20/20 long vision but now use reading glasses at +1 for the computer and fine needlework but this is age related....sucks getting old. I recommend the laser eye sight correction but only done by a reputable opthalmologist.
My DH had it done while we were in Singapore. He was scared that he'd come out blind, but thankfully didn't! He was -6 in both eyes.... So pretty bad eyesight, but now has 20/20 vision..... He had trouble with glare at night though.... So wears those yellow glasses when he drives at those times which helps.
He wants me to get mine done.... But my eyes just aren't bad enough at -1 IMO.... Glasses do me just fine :)
