Toys in bedrooms or a separate toy room?

Ok, ladies I need your help!

Xh moved out 6 months ago and surprise baby is due in about 2 months. I need to arrange the house so that we all have some space. Luckily it is a 4 bedroom house with two living areas so I have heaps of room to play with.

So my question is
Do I make the 2nd lounge a play room for the kids and leave their rooms as sleep only. Two of the kids would need to share as I have a sewing room.
Or
do I use the 2nd lounge as my sewing room and have all their toys in their rooms.

Thoughts suggestions??? I find it really hard to make decisions on my own :blush: and I want to put 'my' stamp on the house now that xh is no longer here.

I'd use the second lounge as a sewing room assuming everything can be locked away safely from little fingers, and use the bedroom as a play room ... I like th eidea of being able to close a door on mess :rofl:

That said I have ALL the toys in our living room and keep the bedrooms with only a few special toys in them. I want the kids at this age to associate the room with sleep and rest and not playtime ITMS. When they are older that will change though :D

I agree with NaeNae. I have 3 boys in one room so there is no room for them to play in it. Our sunroom is the playroom but unfortunately it is also the room you have to walk through to get to the laundry and toilet. I hate that as I always feel like I need to keep it tidy. I wish the toy room could just be a separate room that I could shut the door on it if its in a mess.

I'd do the spare room for the toy room and have the second living room for sewing. I'm sure some of the time if you are sewing they will want to be with you and bring some of there toys in there, but at least they will have there own room to put them back into.

I like having bedrooms just for sleeping and dressing so I'd have the second lounge as a toyroom. Easier to "supervise" as well and with good storage doesnt need to be a mess. I have the Ikea Expedit shelves plus some mini wheelie bins and the toy room can be packed away quickly and easily. Its also good when we have little friends over as they arent in the bedrooms at all.

We have a play lounge and adults lounge and i love this set up. We also have kids sharing a room but no toys in bedrooms. Our rooms are not big enough to have toys and play.

I love the idea of having a sewing room and wish i could have one the only thing that i thought of was while you may want to sew during the day it will be hard to keep an eye on the kids if you're tucked away in another room.

Either way lucky you to have so much room to 'play with'.

We have a toy room and its the best thing in the world. It used to be open on half of one wall so we put glass multi fold doors in. Keeps the noise down, keeps the mess in and also will be good when #3 comes along in that he/she won't be able to get in there to the girls' non-baby/toddler friendly toys. Down the track when the kids are older it is big enough to put in desks for them to study.

I love that the kids have their own space, and they know that their toys stay in there, although some occasionally drift into their bedroom for a party or something!

I would be using your lounge area as the play room and the spare bedroom as your sewing room. With 2 kids and another on the way you will probably need more space for their play than a bedroom.

I'd put the sewing stuff in a bedroom and have a toy room in the second Lounge.

I have toys in the bedroom and in the playroom... oh dear.. we have way too many toys!

like the others have said use the 2nd lounge as the play room, we also have a 4 bedroom with a second carpeted media room with sliding doors which we use to put all the toys, play mats baby swings etc in and whenever we find one lying about we can just chuck it in that room! easier to keep an eye on the kiddies too!

I would use the second lounge area as a kids toy room and use a bedroom for your sewing.

My kids don't have toys in their bedrooms, otherwise they would never sleep. We have turned our formal dining area into a kids corner which is separated by a huge, gated divider. It works really well for when people are visiting because the kids can play safely whilst the parents are having a cuppa or whatever. I can also see into the kids corner from the kitchen. It is the perfect set up for us.

What do you think is going to work best for you? Will the girls be happy sharing?

Personally, since we've had our playroom I haven't looked back. I can't imagine life without it now. It's so nice to have all the clutter refined to one room, yes bits and peices do make their way out into the rest of the house, but because it's connected to the living area DS tends to play in there most of the time.

Personally, I like keeping the bedroom for sleeping in. Especially now that DS is in a big boy bed, toys would be too much temptation for my little man. But I do keep some books in there...

Everyone is different in what works for them - I'm sure you'll find a solution that works for all 4 of you.

PS. Can't believe it's only two months to go!

We have all of the kids toys in the second lounge, there are no toys in the bedrooms, I have a kids lounge and an adult lounge...but some of the toys have found there way into my lounge too :lol:
I think sewing room in the bedroom and toyroom in the 2nd lounge.

This has been interesting. We have wood floors, so have padded and are to the side of the lounge for the kids to play in and also have afew toys in their bedroom. We dont have the problem with them playing the toys after lights out, they just dont stop talking! :lol:
I would make the 2nd lounge into the kids lounge

I'd use the extra lounge for a playroom. Could the baby share your room? Then the girls could have their own room and one for sewing.

I've never actually heard of anyone not having toys in bedrooms :lol: That's what kids' bedrooms are for, in my eyes, and I didn't realise anyone thought differently til I read this thread! How sheltered am I?!

i agree with Teni, growing up we never had the room for a toyroom either in another loungeroom or bedroom so our toys were in our rooms, and we don't have another loungeroom or bedroom now that we could turn into the kids toyroom, i wish we did.

In saying that, i'd keep the sewing stuff in the bedroom to keep it away from curious hands and make the other loungeroom into the kids toyroom

Thanks everyone. This has helped heaps. I like that they can have a room to share and play in, and my big fear was of little hands getting into my sewing stuff.

I'm going to take the rest of the 'adult stuff' ie my books out of the play room and then they can have all theirs in there. Dd1 can have her things up out of reach of dd2 and hopefully that will keep dd1 happy.

Right, now to get motivated and do it!
