Wide prams??

So, it looks like we're going to need to buy another pram. DD has hip dysplasia and will be wearing a brace for the next ~3 months, and she's very very close to not fitting in our current one. She'll definitely outgrow it in the next couple of weeks unfortunately. So, is there such a thing as a particularly wide pram? Does anyone know of one? I'd love to carry her everywhere, but with summer coming up it's just not going to be possible for us. DD is a hot baby, and with the brace I don't want to get it any more sweaty or have it dig in any more than it already does, tue last thing DD needs on top of already being uncomfy and unable to get in the water is broken or irritated skin :(

I had a BJ city elite which I thought was very 'spacious' (and also a bit wide on the bottom but not huge) and we've recently traded it in for a BJ city mini. It was mainly because of the weight (city elite is approx. 12 kg and city mini is 8 kg). When DS jumped into the city mini I straight away noticed how much bigger he looked in it, the seat doesn't go back as much as the elite. The city elite I though was the best pram ever in all other aspects. If it wasn't for my dodgy back I would have kept it :( I miss it already! There is also such a massive difference with how smooth the elite is, in the mini you can feel all the bumps :/ Go and try one out hun, they are around $800 new but you can snap one up for around $300-400 on ebay. GL hun!

I also really want a reversible handle which it doesn't have. I may not have the option to be picky though.

PZ, did the RCH give you any contacts for support groups etc, they would probably be able to help. I know when I had my eldest a little girl in my Mum's group had hip displaysia but she didn't get picked up til about 8 months. I know she borrowed an older style pram but it was wider and wasn't as deep so there was room for the hips etc.

Maybe see if there are any groups on FB?

If you have to buy a brand new one take her with you and make them let you try her in them. Don't take their word that she will fit as she needs to be comfortable and have room for air to circulate expecially with the hot weather coming.

Yes, ask the RCH if they have any suggestions or if they loan out prams.

I know you want a reversible one but if you are going to get a secondhand one dd1 was in the beema q and fitted really well, she had the same brace as your dd. I used a cotton ring sling to have her resting on my hip too it wasn't as hot as the ergo type carriers.

We have a Valco Matrix three wheeler and DD fit into it in both brace and plaster. She did't fit into the pram bit but once we turned it into the forward facing way, we had no problems.

If you are wanting a BJ City Elite (or even want to check out some of the others similar) hop onto MySTrollers - yes they are in the US and yes you'll have to pay a bit in shipping but their purchase prices are dirt cheap. ONLY down side is there will be no Aust warranty.

PZ: you need to check out emmaljungas! i got one from the side of the road a few months ago and they are pretty fabulous! the old skool ones (that i love the bestest) are really economical. I also see them all the time at savers...

Or Bertini Bidwell. They're massive, DH calls ours the playpen on wheels. We paid $135 second hand.

We have a bertini bidwell too, got it for $82 from eBay... It is truly a playpen on wheels. Emmunjulas are big as well... Not surewhat else...

Sounds like you want one where she can face you? DD fitted fine in the Maclaren Vogue whole time she was in brace but that is a stroller style. I did used to carry her alot in the ERGO while in brace as the ERGO (with no insert) mimics the same position as the brace. Is it a Denis Brown style brace with the bar across the back and plastic cuffs? They told me to chop up some socks and these went under the cuffs then rolled round the edges of them really nice just like the tubey grip stuff and we never got any broken skin issues at all. You might find that although can be sweaty in a sling/carrier - laying on the bar (if is that style) and then fidgeting causes more rubbing than in a sling where there is far less pressure on the brace.

Not sure if you have been told this but normally the no water thing is only until they consider the hip stable, I know I freaked about no water but after about a month when I went back they said stable enough for baths - but she was still in the brace for another few months.

I reckon look for a good secondhand bugaboo bee.....the seat goes both ways and beacuse it has no real sides the legs can be as wide as you like...have a look at one and you'll see what I mean.....you'll get a good secondhand one in the $300-$400 range.

I'm selling my BJ City Elite (fabulous pram but I lashed out and upgraded to the BJ Select!) but I'm in Perth. If you were happy to pay courier costs then it could be worth looking into. Not sure how much you're looking to spend though. PM with more details if you're keen. :D
