our chosen names
finally DF and I have agreed on names
if we have a girl one day she will be named Leela Adelle
Leela after my nanna Leila, but spelt Leela so people don't mispronounce it Lay-La as I have seen a lot of people say that is how Leila is pronounced, well sorry but it aint the way my Nanna pronounces it, it's Lee-La as far as I am concerned :D and also spelt that way because DF is a Dr Who fan. Sounds same as my nanna's name so it all good :D and Adelle because it a name we both agreed on
and if we have a boy one day he will be named Alaric Frank (pronounced A-La-Ric)
Alaric because 4 baby name books later and umpteen searches on the internet it is the only boy name we have both agreed on. and Frank because it is a family name on both sides :)
Just wondering what people think of the names? Lots of people say they don't like Alaric, but that's cool, least we know it wont become over used :D

They are great names!
I've never heard of Alaric before, whats its meaning?
-
Gosh I really like Alaric, it sounds like something from Lord of the Rings, my dh would like it :) I like Leila pronounced Lay-la, I think it's nice that you have changed the spelling though to be pronounced the way that you want it sound as Leila is pronounced Lay-la so I'm not surprised that your nana has had people say it wrong all of her life.

the meaning of Alaric is Noble Ruler. There was a Gothic King named Alaric years ago, he was a visigoth, (not the wear all black sort of goth) he plundered Rome in 410 AD, found that out after deciding on the name.
I don't think my nanna has had trouble with people pronouncing her name wrong, not as far as I know, it just most people on the internet say it is Lay-La. I think a name is pronounced the way the parents decide :-)

I am not a fan of Alaric, sorry, but I love Leela.
-
that's ok Maruschke :-) lots of people don't like Alaric :-)
-
I do like unusual names though, so if you love it go for it and ignore the masses who don't like it. We will likely call our next daughter Hadassah.

I love love love Leela! I'm a massive Futurama nerd and it's been on our list for ages. Great names!
-
Its funny cos when i look at Leila, i automatically pronounce it Leela, not Layla. I like it :).
Alaric initially i didnt like, but the more times ive said it over in my head, the more i think its ok, it flows nicely.

I like Leela Adelle. It's very pretty. We had Adelle on our list for DD but decided on something else in the end. Leila (pronounced Lay-la) is becoming more popular so Leela is a little bit different but not too unusual so I like it.
Alaric Frank is not my cup of tea but I don't hate it either. It's quite a strong masculine name which I like. Boy's names are hard to choose.
I also like that you have the family connection for both names.
