So I have my brother, SIL nephew and neice coming to sty here for chrissy this year, and possibly a few ring-ins. I have never had christmas at my house before and have no idea what to cook...
We will most likely get a ham. And I am thinking I will attempt to make a christmas pudding and some real custard. But I have no idea what else...
What will you be doing for christmas food wise?
Our family all bring a plate each. We co-ordinate, so there are no doubles.
We generally have,
Baked ham, roast pork, roast chicken.
potato and pasta salad, coleslaw
garden salad
fresh bread
we also have lots of nibbles around. Nuts, white christmas, cherry ripe balls, apricot balls, fruit bowls (with lychees and seasonal fruit)
Dessert is usually a christmas pudding, home made custard, and vanilla icecream.
YUM!
ham, roast lamb/beef/pork/chook, some seafood
salad this year (it's at mum's place - too tight a fit for hot food with that many people)
fruit platters
pudding for anyone that wants it
choc ripple cake or similar for those of us that don't like pudding lol
if it's at our place (next year) - similar mix of meat, baked vegies instead of salad
it seems like a lot of meat, which it is - but we only do portions that are appropriate for the number of people coming over - and we share the cooking between three houses the day before so most of the meat is cold. we also share the left overs so no one has to cook for dinner that night...
ETA - we also have snack stuff around like TT. fudge, peppermint bark etc.
We usually have all the roast usuals like potatos, pumpkin, etc but as we are vegetarian we have nut roast instead of the meat. It is really good and all the omnivores also eat it. We also have cheese, summer fruit, dips, olives etc.
Having about 10 of us this year, maybe 12, so a fair bit actually! lol
I am a bit Christmas mad, so it is all about the food. Menus and shopping list is already written :redface:
We do an all-day lunch/dinner/drinks/grazing kind of thing, so lots of food, lots of booze, lots of left overs for Boxing Day and the next.

Fresh strawberries, vanilla bean ice crea, cheese platter and biscotti.
So looking forward to Christmas, I love it!

We are heading to a beach house and all my family are flying in from interstate to stay there with us 8 adults and 4 kids. So as we are not at home we will go basic this year, we are having prawns (fresh from the markets there) and I am buying an already glazed ham. We will have some basic salads, a potato, christmas coleslaw and something else. Plenty of nuts, dips, cheese and fresh fruit. No one ever eats the pudding so it's fresh fruit and some white christmas for our sweet treat.
This is DD's first Christmas so I'm hugely excited, never been into Christmas (as an adult) before now. We're having it at our place this year for the first time. We're having:
Plum glazed ham
Turkey
Potato salad
Pasta salad
Baked salmon
Apple and fennel salad
Fruit platter
Cheeses
Mini ricotta muffins
Pavlova
Choc ripple cake
Yay!!

When I join my family for Christmas it'ss a no cooking occasion so everyone can relax which means we feast on fresh seafood, salads and seasonal fruits. It's not as fancy as turkey etc but it's also a lot less work.
I am considering crashing Epacris' Christmas lunch one year just so I can sample her famous cake and the turducken.
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Limeslice's.... :lol:
Gosh, I think my Mum's just doing sausages and other barbecue stuff :redface: When we did the big family thing, we used to have masses of food like roast chicken, coleslaw, etc. but then the uncles and aunties decided to start going out for lunch at social clubs instead. It became so boring my parents split off and just started going up to their caravan for Xmas Day...

We always go all out at Chrissy. No one cooks for a week after ;)
Always roast turkey crown at my house, dressed with butter, tarragon and lemon. Stuffed with lemon and onions. Served with:
chestnut stuffing
pigs in blankets (small skinless sausages wrapped in bacon and roasted in the oven)
roast potatoes
carrots
brussel sprouts
gravy
cranberry sauce.
Pudding is generally a trifle and Christmas pudding (with spiced rum and set alight of course), mince pies and loads of cream.
Yum yum yum!
christmas is a big occasion here too, we all take turns having it and everyone brings a plate of whatever they specialise in.
generally we have

hot roast pork and crackling
aberdeen sausage
fresh aussie tiger prawns
past salad and coleslaw
cous cous salad
pear, bacon and fetta rocket salad
caeser salad
apple, cranberry, seafood and tartare sauce plus gravy
a frozen xmas pudding thingy (not sure what the actual name is but usually when i say a frozen pudding thingy people go oh yeah they are yum)
summer fruit trifle
cheese cake (flavour varies)
pavlova
fruit salad
various ice cream flavours
various slices depending on whos making them
all the trimmings - toppings, cream, liquer sauces that sort of thing
all the nibblies like rum balls, peppermint balls, white xmas, xmas shaped chocolates, white choc truffles (i make and they are to die for), cheeses, dips, biscuits etc etc
fruit punches both alcoholic and non alcoholic as well as the general bevvys like beer, wine and cordial
It actually isnt a lot as each person brings an appropriate amount of their thing and any left overs are divvied up between us all.
i like the sound of choc ripple cake and am off to google it. also turducken best google that too, might have some new things for the menu
Okay, I've asked my mum if she had anything special in mind, and now if I want to, Xmas lunch is on me! :leap: I'm gonna go look at recipes :D

This year it will be fruit platters all day long. Pancakes or something similar for brekky, then just let the girls graze all day long.
