Repititve oral thrush in a baby

DD has oral thrush AGAIN. This is her 7th infection since she was born. She had thrush constantly for the first 10 weeks of her life. We finally got rid of it and we had a couple of good months where there was nothing and then in the last couple of months I just can't seem to get rid of it. I treat it, it goes away and then a couple of days later it is back. I use daktarin gel in her mouth, it says on the instructions to use for 2 days after symptoms disappear, I have been using for about 5 days after they disappear but then within a couple of days of stopping it is back. She's 9 months old, its not like she is having a high sugar or yeast diet. How can I get it too **** off?? Am I the one giving it to her?? My nipples are slightly sorer on the days that she has it present in her mouth but other than that I have no symptoms. Could I be giving it to her without any symptoms?? :dunno:

Hi hun, I'm sorry your LO keeps getting the thrush. I know I can't help you in regards to BF and oral thrush as I put DS on formula since fairly early on, but my DS used to get is constantly too. I used daktarin as well, but I used to skip a dose here and there and then bang, there it would be again. I ended up going to the GP as I was just tearing my hair out (DS used to also refuse bottles when it was pretty bad) and she ended up giving me a different gel thinking daktarin didn't work. The thing is it did, I just wasn't religious about using it like the tube said so I wasn't properly treating it. One day I got so fed up with it, I ended up disinfecting all his toys, teethers ect as I was convinced the thrush germs were everywhere and he kept getting it back by chewing on the toys and touching them. It eventually went away, can't remember at what stage but I'm pretty sure it was before he got his teeth and he got the first one just before he turned 1. Hope the thrush goes away for good soon :crossfingers:

You need to be treating yourself as well as your DD at the same time then treat both of you 7 days after symptoms to see if that helps. Also try something like baby biotics (it's a probiotic) to see If that helps.

Agree with this. It is pointless to treat her if you are not treating yourself as well - even with no symptoms you may still have it. I would also be looking at giving yourself some probiotics as well.

I am treating both of us with the daktarin, I'm spreading it on my nipples. I'm taking a probiotic and giving bubs a baby biotic as well, it just doesnt want to stay away.

Might have to do do a candida elimination diet or whatever it's called. Or look at seeing a naturopath to see if there is anything they can do

Just thought of something else, does she have a dummy? And or teether because she may be reinfecting herself from theses.

No dummy, no specific teether. I have cut as much yeast and sugar out of my diet as possible. I can't cut much else out because I have a range of severe food allergies and I wont be left with anything else left to eat. Might google the thrush elimination diet though, see what I can do. I would love to see a naturopath but the nearest one is about 400kms away. Hopefully I won't need to do that. It makes for a very expensive visit.
