DS has gorgeous, fine, strawberry blonde, curly hair. He's getting to the point where needs a haircut but I don't want him to lose his curls so I've been putting it off.
So if your child had curls, did they lose them after the first haircut or did they grow back?
I know he'll need a haircut eventually but maybe if I can prepare myself I won't be so devastated when they are gone. Probably not :cry:

dd1 has beautiful curly hair too. it grew in a really odd way to begin with, long in the middle and short on the sides, so i trimmed it when she was about 1 yr old. so it was all the same length. (dh hated it cause it was pretty short and like an afro) Now she has haor down her back and lovely ringlets! beautiful hair!!! almost got it cut yesterday, just a trim, but she wouldnt have a bar of it. and i wonder if the curls would have stayed! good luck!

Not selfish at all! I am obsessed with Tiah's curls :) DP is always telling me to leave her alone, they are so amazing, I am always touching them. (ok now that sounds weird haha)

Totally understand how you feel! My darling baby has the gorgeous golden ringlets I have dreamed of ever since finding out that DH has naturally curly hair (he keeps it cropped, #2 all over lol). Well.... that was until the day my wonderful DD1 decided to play hairdresser and hack her poor baby sister's curls - which were past her shoulders - right to the scalp.
However, I'm pleased to report that DD2's curls are growing back just as curly as before, and feels thicker and more easy to manage (less prone to tangling, smoother to brush etc) after her 'haircut' :) I'm sure your little man's lovely hair will grow back just fine, and hopefully he won't look like an escaped lobotomy patient while you wait for it to grow out hahah ;) Good luck!
My DS has curls as well, not masses of them but really cute ones at the end. I had also put off taking him to the hairdressers for well after he needed to get his hair cut for that very reason - I was afraid his curls would go! But they didn't - :dance: he still has them but now hair looks lot nicer and less surf bum look (which is quite an achievement for a 2 year old). Only thing that I did do was to make sure I took him to a place where they cut kids hair the whole time that way I felt they would know how I'd feel with him getting his hair cut for the first time and how important super cute curls are to a Mommy :D
My son has baby-soft curly hair when he was younger. It got quite long because we loved the curls so much. We finally decided to get his hair cut and his hair it straight now. I'm pretty sure the actual cutting of the hair doesn't change anything, it's just that as they get older their hair can change anyway. DS's hair is much thicker and more child-like (rather than baby-like) now, so I'm sure it would have lost the curls in the new growth anyway. I do love looking back through his photos though at his silky curls :)
My ds has fine almost white curly hair and I had it cut to help thicken it and it's grown back just as curly :)
One of Moo's little friends has gorgeous curls, his Mum felt exactly the same as you :D I'm happy to report his hair is no different after a couple of trims!

Hi sorry to burst the bubble but my DS had curly blonde hair and after about three cuts they have totally disappeared and gone straight although me and DP do not have curly hair so alas it was meant to be. I do miss his curls!
I'm afraid that in DS's case the first couple of haircuts brought about the end of the curls. As a baby he had this amazing curly red/auburn head of hair, it was almost an afro it was so full on. He had his first hair cut at 7 months (and one every couple of months from then on in) and by the time he was 1 the curls were long gone. But his hair also changed colour, to more of a brown with red highlights. And now, it's turning blonde.
My DS lost his curls. I cried after his first haircut without his curls he looked like a little boy and not a baby anymore.
DS1 had cute curls when he was a little baby then after he got his hair cut his hair thickened up and it went straight. It's practically dead straight now. Where as DS2 on the other hand had even more cute little curls when he was a baby. When he got his hair cut he still grows his curls back. He also has a natural wave throughout it just like his Mumma. :)
