Ok I need some advice ladies!
DD (20 months) has an ear infection and suspected urinary tracy infection, so I need to collect a urine sample from a very unhappy, uncooperative, un toilet trained toddler.
How the hell do I do that?!?
The dr gave me a sample jar, should I just put that in her potty and let her keep sitting on there until something happens?! Is there some easy way someone else knows????

Ummm I don't know how you can get it from your DD but I would be pumping her up with fluids and then taking her nappy off (preferably outside) and then when she is having a wee, catch some! When I take DS's nappy off (haven't even thought about TT) he almost always has a pee (must be nice to have that nappy off!) so that's when I would try and catch some in a container. What B said and if i was totally desperate i would leave her nappy off and if she wees on the floor use an old medicine dropper and suck some up!! Good luck and hope miss T feels better soon.

You can put cotton wool balls in the nappy then syringe the fluid out of the balls.
don't suck wee up from the floor with an dropper - you'll get a false positive because it will pick up any bacteria on the floor.
it would be easier if you have one of the bags that stick on. Perhaps call the pathology centre you have a slip for and ask if you can collect one from them.
Otherwise, yes, it is a matter of sitting your DD on the toilet and holding the cup beneath her and trying to catch the sample. You could try watching her for signs that she needs to wee and try then. Or try hourly. Up to you. But the bag is easier ;)

I had to do this a few weeks back. I got DD (3) to drink heaps and sit on potty all the time... But she is like me and gets stage fright! So I ran a bath and as soon as her legs hit the water she started weeing! Maybe try that trick??
Fwiw my dr told me they don't like to use the bags anymore? They give false readings? Might be different with different drs?

I sterilized a clean take away container with boiling water and then put it in the potty and waited.
A tray-type container is easier than the silly bottles - but it does need to be clean and sterile.
Thanks ladies! Going to try the potty tomorrow morning with a sterilized tray as well as the jar from the dr so
I can catch the first morning wee.
Now to get the vomit out of my hair, underwear, ears.... Everything. Ew

I used the self-adhesive baggie. I was complimented on such a clean sample so they can still work! I cleaned her bits with a wipe, stuck it on as best I could, but a nappy on loosely and put her down for her nap. Then popped the baggie in a sterile specimen jar and hightailed it to the GP. It was a urinary tract infection and it was resistant to the kind of antibiotics she was on, so it was pretty important to get that diagnosis.

i put DD on the potty with the jar under her. almost filled it! :) I was complimented by the doctor on my excellent collection

Tried the potty all day today, she happily sat on it without peeing for ages then got up and walked a few steps and proceeded to vomit and poo everywhere :(
After cleaning her and the entire house up (mama panicked and ran trying to find daddy while she continued to spew) she had managed to wee without us catching it Doh
Going to ask the pathology place for the sticky bag thing tomorrow. I dont want to keep pushing the potty thing when she is still throwing up so much.
Oh and just for a giggle ladies. Two HOURS after the event, DP asks me what is that on my eyebrow. That would be poop. Parenthood is so glamourous. Lol
