Has anyone done the Potty Training in 3 days?

A friend at mum's group passed on this book to me and I started having a quick read. Without knowing all the ins and out it looks like a VERY intensive 3 days. If I knew it worked (ha ha ) I might consider doing it!

My DS is 2 years and nearly 3 months. for the past 2 weeks he has done MOST of his poos on the toilet - either us seeing he's about to do it and sticking him on the toilet or him requesting. This morning he pulled his penis out of his nappy and weed on the floor. I think he's showing signs of readiness but he seems so young and his speech isn't as good as an average 2 year old (though catching up :))

What do you guys think?

I've done it and what I do works. I didn't follow that program though, I just decided that it was time to do it and I was taking them to the toilet every 10-15 minutes or so whether they thought they needed to go or not. I wont say that by the end of the 3 days they are well and truly 100% toilet trained with no accidents at all, but you can certainly get them out of nappies in that time and well on their way to being 100% toilet trained. It wasn't till after I got my last child TTed that I even knew that there was a 3 day proram LOL. The one thing I would reccommend you do is to not plan any big outings in those first few days while you do it. It makes it easier if you don't have to resort to using a nappy for anything other than a day sleep and bedtime etc.

I did the 2-minute programme. The taking DS to the loo didn't work as he refused to go on it for hours on end, day after day. I even lined his potty with a cloth nappy and he still refused to go without a nappy on. He was happy running around with no pants/nappy and not weeing, but not going to the loo/potty. Actually, he was also happy escaping from the back garden wearing just a T-shirt, chatting to our neighbour and crawling through a tunnel he'd taken into the front garden, but that's a story to save for his 21st.

The 2-min programme involved inviting his best mate round to use our loo (well, not specifically, but that's what happened). Once DS saw that, he was ready and wanting the loo.

I used it with DD and it worked. It's hard work and we really didn't see results until day three so if you do plan to do it - don't give up on day two thinking it's not working! DD was about 25 months old and we've never had any problems day or night since - and that's almost a year ago now! Good luck, stay consistent and then it finally just 'clicks' with them.

My DS was about the same age as yours when I started & I was daunted by the task. I hadn't read anything & took a very similar approach to Trillian & yes by day 3 we were on our way. Accidents along the way (usually because I would forget to follow up) but by 2yrs 8mths I would consider him fully trained. He takes himself off to the toilet (stands to urinate) & even sets up his seat to sit down. Sometimes I haven't realised until I go looking for him!
One trick my mum told me to boost confidence was to introduce another ' big boy' activity at the same time. DS always wanted to help flip the pancakes on the stove so on our first day of TT under careful supervision I allowed him this whilst also encouraging use of the toilet. Boy did he puff his chest out that day! Also had nanny buy him some big boy jocks & when we were out dad would take him to urinals to pee together. As a final encouragement because DS was so excited about starting 3yo kinder next year we told him he'd have to practice going to toilet by himself in readiness.
My biggest mistake was using the pull up pants for longer outings. Id forget to remind him to go to toilet & being like a nappy he would just go. Once I figured that out we were back on track.

Your DS certainly sounds ready so go with it encouraging what he is already trying for himself.

Every kid is different but as mum you know him best so play on that & you should find the task quite straight forward. Good luck!

BTW throw a ping pong ball in toilet to encourage accuracy. It wont flush & is a bit of a novelty!

my parents trained myself and my 3 siblings each in 2 days- the weekend after we turned 2. Done and dusted ... I wish I knew how!! But there were no inbetween stages - no training pants, etc - just straight from terry flats to knickers, over 1 weekend. Four times.

we're giving the 3 day method a crack over Christmas ... wish us luck!!

I agree give pull-ups or training pants the flick - we said 'good-bye' to all the nappies, DD helped me put them in a bag and we pretended to throw them in the bin. We went straight to undies day and night so there was no confusion. The program works on the theory that your little one won't like feeling wet so will learn that when they feel they need to go, to get to the potty otherwise they will get wet. Training undies and pull-ups don't have the same affect as they contain the wetness itms?
