Contraception after pre eclampsia and high blood pressure.

I had a c section nearly 2 weeks ago and I was just wondering what the best contraception was. My doctor will be in on Monday to see me (im still in hospital) I was thinking about it and due to my traumatic birth experience I want to be on some form of birth control until I decide if and when we want to try for another baby.

Problem is, I don't think I can have the pill. I'm on blood pressure medications and recovering from pre eclampsia and postpartum hypertension... But before I leave the hospital I really want to be on birth control.
Any ideas or suggestions...? Thanks in advance.

Firstly congratulations on the arrival of Amelia. I hope everything is going well. My sister had her son at 24+4 for the same reasons. I hope you are also recovering.

I also had severe pre eclampsia but mine happened at full term and I too had an emergency c section. I got put on the mini pill but that wasn't until my 6 week check up by which time I had come off all my BP medication. To be honest I felt so crap for the first few weeks that sex was the last thing on my mind. I strongly suspect they will not put you on the pill until your BP is under control. You may have to use condoms in the mean time. I know that probably doesn't help a lot.

How is Amelia?

I had implanon after my premmie with p/e.

Oh I don't want sex but I don't want to chance it at all iykwim. I'm terrified of falling pg again after the events that happened with my birth.

Well I've seen my gp and he has prescribed minipill but I'm still on my bp meds.. labetalol and hydralazine.. at quite high doses.

Should I fill the script and go on it or wait till I'm weaned off bp meds?

Probably something you should ask your doctor or the chemist.

He said I was ok to be on it from now but I might just ask the chemist just in case it inteferes with my bp meds.

I'm really scared of falling pg again after what happened... apparently straight after birth you r super fertile....
