OK...
I had one rum ball yesterday at a Christmas Party. I assume there is negligible alcohol to it, just the taste. I didn't have any alcohol infused trifle though.
Are you planning on eating this stuff at Christmas or not?
I figure the amount is safe, and I might risk it (please don't stone me) but I've never felt even the slightest bit affected by small amounts of alcohol in food.
I can use the "I am driving" excuse to get away with not drinking any grog.

I ate Triffle that was Kahlua soaked when pregnant. I can't resist and it is the tiniest amount of kahlua (I know cause I made it). My nana always makes me rum balls but she used Run essence when I was pregnant. I would have eaten them either way:)
I refused the trifle when I was pregnant. Boy it was hard to do but I just wanted to play it safe.
I will be eating them, Im planning on making the trifle and using cointreau (sp?) insteada of sherry but the small amount in one serve doesnt worry. TBH now Im in the second trimester I am also planning on having a glass of champagne for lunch and a glass on my 30th birthday in January :shhh:
I'm eating them. I think as long as your balancing it's ok.
No stoning here. I think a small glass here and there is ok.
I won't eat them, but i don't drink at all during pregnancy. I am thinking of making an exception during labour though, mmm baileys
I had the odd glass of wine when pregnant, although i dont think i ever managed to drink the full glass, so i would say enjoy the christmas food and dont worry about it. others might feel differently. i guess its whatever your comfortable doing. :) congratulations by the way!!
I know in an average rum ball recipe there may be only a few tablespoons of rum etc so it never worried me to eat them because I would only ever have one or two anyway. I didn't usually eat trifle though because I never had room for dessert :lol:
I was at a BBQ a few weeks ago and they had adults only rum balls - so I didn't have any.
If I am happy for DD to have something then I figure it's ok for me being pregnant - and to be honest I'm not feeling hard done by if I have nothing lol. I'll be happy to be able to stomach Christmas dinner at this rate!!
I would let DD have a rum ball if she wanted one - I used to be able to have some when I was little (and I turned out fine, I think lol), I doubt she would like it very much though lol.

However someone bought to my attention yesterday, that lemon, lime and bitters has alchohol in it, and that is the only soft drink I can keep down. So a guess a couple of rum balls wont hurt
BTW : I never add rum to rum balls or alchohol to trifle
yep will be having rum balls, i dont go much on trifle usually, that soggy cake texture doesnt do much for me, but for some strange reason i have wanted trifle for a week now, so i dare say i will be having some. i dont believe the amount in xmas food matters too much, i know when i make rum balls 2tbs rum between 50 balls doesnt seem to mean much. i made mini puddings the other day, dd and dsd have eaten 1 or 2 each. if you are concerned you can always ask if its rum essence as i know a lot of people make them that way now, and pretend your concerned for your dd eating them.
Whatever you're comfortable with, go with it.
Lemon lime and bitters is likely to be the same alcoholic ratio as rum balls - prob less. The bottle of bitters is approx 50% alcohol and there dislike a couple of drop s in the glass. It is safe to drink:
what about seafood extender guys?? you know the stuff they use to make California sushi rolls? Anyone know much about what its made of? HELP..... I will be making the stuff for Xmas for the family who love love love sushi but I know I will want to eat some myself... especially when I am making it....
I'm playing it safe, and avoiding all grog, cold and raw seafood and meats, all the good cheeses, and so forth ...
Unfortunatley, I'm also off a lot of "ok" goodies, because they make me sick or give me heartburn at the moment!! Including chocolate, caramels, anything oily, anything spicy, anything quite rich ... the list goes on ... it's a bit depressing!!
I may however be starting up a list of all the things I want to eat after the birth!!
In the meantime, I'm going to make the most of delicious things which I can eat quite happily at the moment - like fresh fruits and roast meats and crusty breads with a little butter, etc.
And at the end of the day, I figure it's only another 3 months - and I don't want to spend them worrying about whether I should have eaten this or that ...

Im very cautious with cold seafood even when not pregnant. If you are making the sushi fresh and it eating it within a few hours you could make some vegie ones for yourself with cucumber, avocado, pickled ginger. Good luck
I ate everything that you are not supposed to. The thought of no smoked salmon sushi did my head in (although I did only buy it from one place that I knew was fresh).
I'm not a big drinker but did have the occasional wine during my pregnancy. Probably average of one glass a month in my second and third trimesters.
