Anyones child had grommets redone due to glue ear or infection..(not because they've simply fallen out early)
DD's have finally fallen out after 12-18 months in and she has glue ear again :( its highly likely she'll need them redone, only a small % need them again so wanting to hear from others that have been in the same position, ta

we had a 2nd lot done in one ear only, after the first lot fell out after 10 months. DS still had a small amount of hearing loss in that ear, so it indicted something was up, and we suspected he was going to end up getting re-occuring ear infections like he did before the grommits. We had them but in before he was sick with a cold again from memory, the hearing loss was enough for us to make the decision, especially as he has other issues with speech etc and it was earlier to eliminate all other factors. The dr said for a kid without the issues my son had he probably wouldn't have redone them with just 10% hearing loss.
This one has lasted around 16 months, and it is just in the process of falling out. I guess I will wait and see what next winter brings to see if we need another set, but I'm happy I did this one.
My boytwin has his first set aged 15 months, and his 2nd when he was 3 because of repeat glue ear/severe hearing loss. They also took out his adenoids at the same time to see if that would help. He recovered fine from the 2nd set and they are still in situ. His hearing is fine again.
Thanks ladies...DD has some loss of hearing :( waiting to hear from the ENT but I'm positive she will be getting them in again :( hoping once the fluid clears her hearing will be fine
My DS2 had grommets twice. The first lot fell out as they should then he had recurring ear infections again and then glue ear. The second time the ENT also removed his adenoids to help with drainage, this seemed to have worked.

do ask olive. they took dds tonsils and adanoids out when she had her grommets. apparently its very common for the ear problems to actually stem from tonsils or adanoids.
Spoke with ENT today.. Grommets in and adenoids out in early feb, fingers crossed this is the last time!!
