6 Week old very fussy and fighting sleep

Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone has any ideas that can help. Around thursday last week, we transitioned to full breast milk as I had low supply issues.

Since the start of the week DD has been hard to settle fussing around bed times and not wanting to go to sleep. Since thursday however she is activley fighting sleep and nothing seems to settle her, I've tried feeding to sleep, rocking/patting walking and dummy as she has a strong urge to suck to sleep however as soon as I put her down no matter how asleep she is, she wakes up and cries again.

I have used a sling when after an hour of trying she won't sleep just so she gets some sleep and I can get some rest, however I'm not sure if this is normal? Am I doing something wrong?

my life saver is a battery operated swing! puts him to sleep everytime and I can still get around and do things without him stuck to me like velcro! he is in it right now!

I did just try the letting get drowsy on boob method and slipping her into her bassinette. Only took too goes and providing her bassinette is right beside me she stayed asleep!.. I have a white noise maker doing ocean waves too so that might have helped.

Thanks Me+him+bub I'm looking for one of those now, as someone else just recommended them.

I really want more gentle methods, I had a very strict and tough love upbringing and while thats not bad it's not what I want for my children.

The Ergo was my lifesaver in those early weeks. DD wanted to be held all the time because of silent reflux and wouldn't sleep lying down so she slept in the carrier strapped to me.

Around that age it is totally normal. They have a wonder week about then too.
Both of mine lived in a sling for the better part of six months.

:hug: what you're going through sounds completely normal! Especially around this time they go through the 6 week growth spurt and there can be a lot of fussiness, (a big time where a lot of mums wean because they think it's their milk)! Hang in there, you're doing a great job. A baby hammock was my lifesaver, he just loves being rocked to sleep in it, and the best part is that it was hands free and they don't grow out of it as quickly as a swing. Also slings are really helpful too for when bub wants to be on you all the time. It really doesn't last long hun, before you know it your baby will be growing up before your eyes and no longer wanting to be held. Enjoy it while you can I say lol! Remember when it gets tough that "this too shall pass". Just listen to your baby's cues and respond to her needs and you'll do just fine, they're very smart in knowing just what they want! All the best, I dealt with a very colicky crying baby for months on end and I know the feeling like it was yesterday!

It's really normal lol - you're not doing anything wrong. I'd put her straight in the sling if that helps. Best to avoid overtiredness if you can. It's ok if she only sleeps in there during the day - dont' worry about bad habits, etc, etc. Will all work itself out in time.

The ergo is quite good, but you need to also buy the infant insert at this age. The manduca, beco or olives&applesauce carriers are all very similar, but can be used from newborns (there are different models sometimes, so you might need to confirm this when you're buying).

You may also want to look at a hammock, some mums swear by them.Trish sells them :)

Thanks guys, looks like shes decided if it isnt on me at least during the day she isnt interested. Shes in the sling now sucking her dummy.

Thanks for the reassurance, I was worried about bad habits I keep getting told by people around me that I'm spoiling her, but she genuinly seems to want to be with me. DH who is home from work has tried but she wont have a bar of him LOL so it isnt just a picking up and being held by anyone thing. Bassinette didnt work btw LOL She does seem to sleep at night but not without protest, I'm trying to get most of her sleep in at night.

Baby Hammock sounds interesting, where can I get them from? also any one used fisher price my lil lamb swing?

Amby baby hammock is what I started with, just google it and you will see their website, then happy hangup is what I bought later on, as it caters for bigger babies as well (until approx 3 years if bub loves it that much). You can go straight into the happy hangup if you think it will be long term. They have a YouTube clip on their website that shows a baby in their hammock and some settling techniques. If you cant find the websites then let me know and i will post them for you. They're both from Australia which is good, super quick delivery too.

After a few weeks old, my son wouldn't have a bar of a bassinet nor a cot lol he was such a movement baby though and loved being slightly upright, as he did have colic (apparently hammocks are really good for that too as the bouncing gets rid of trapped wind/gas that could cause tummy upsets). I just cannot recommend a baby hammock enough! It literally saved my sanity lol but my boy certainly wasn't an easy nor textbook baby ;)

Oh, and oh my goodness you can NOT spoil a baby! Your a Mummy and it's your job to give lots of love, affection and respond to your baby's needs, to build a relationship of trust too! Don't listen to them - plus studies have shown the more you hold and respond to your baby by picking up, cuddling, rocking etc the more independant they become as a toddler. So your baby will not be like this forever! As I said, enjoy it and don't feel like you are doing anything wrong by following your instincts :) xx

Went to the Dr, bubs has been diagnosed with Colic and possibly reflux so that explains it. I notice there is no BM during the night so that must be why she sleeps well, but during the day it becomes hard for her poor pet. I ordered the Lil Lamb Rocking Swing for her and looking at getting a Baby Hammock for when she is bigger.
