Newborn Help

Gosh I feel like a twit coming in here and asking this but its all so different this time around.

DD2 who is 13 days old will not sleep anywhere but on or next to me. I have a tetra snuggle bed int he living room so she is int he same space as me but she won't sleep there for more than 5 min then she starts crying.

I have just bought a bassinette to go in my room as I am hoping to move her out of my bed as the thought of Co-sleeping bothers me because I get so tired and worn out I am worried about rolling on her and suffocating her. But I am worried she won't like it and I will have to endure too many sleepless nights to get her use to it and frankly I don't have that in me.


She hates being wrapped and fights against it and screams until she is unwrapped.

She doesn't like the sleepywings

I have a couple of growbags but I have NO idea how to dress a baby etc and our houses heat fluctuates sooo much you might start a night off at a good temp but whatever it is outside, its the same inside.

AND to top it all off .........

My boobs, my poor poor boobs are getting a work out of a lifetime she is on them all day every day. HOW am I going to cope with DD1 AND this new baby, when the baby demands so much from me and DD needs me too........


How do people do it??

How do I get my arms free for longer than 5 mins AND give bubs all the boobie she wants??

How do I get her out of my bed without hassles??

:hug: early days so go easy on yourself babe!! Our lifesaver was an Amby hammock. DS would not sleep anywhere but on us for 3 weeks then fell asleep one night for 7 hrs in the bouncer and we twigged that he liked being more upright. From he slept in 4-7 hours a night, might be worth a try!

Have you tried a sling? When I had DD2 she was the same and my sling was a godsend. I'd walk around while she sucked and I could still get things done like feeding DD1. Good luck. It's so hard in the beginning with one let alone two! X

you might have already tired them, but DS settled very well in a mechanical glider with music - giving me a chance to do whatever (bathroom ... nap ... shower ... laundry ... whatever!)

slings were ok, but DS got quite warm quite quickly in them, and I worried he would overheat ... but others swear by them :)

It's really hard going - but it sounds like you have got a normal one. She has a habit of her whole lifetime. for her whole existence she has not only been close to you - she has been inside you. Who knows what birth is like for a baby - most of us don't remember. But I bet it's a bit of a shock! All she wants for Christmas is.....you. the good news is that it won't be like this forever. She will grow away from you - sooner than you think. If you are not drunk, drugged or a smoker, and you make your bed safe she is safe in bed with you. If you have a partner, she will learn to snuggle up next to their body. Sometimes the pressure is eased by knowing you are doing all the right things, and you are not creating any bad habits.

Isabelle is the same. I spend all day holding her otherwise she would spend all day crying :)
No advice, just a hug and letting you know she's normal and just loves her mama :)

Could it also be your smell? NOT that you stink, lol, but maybe you could put something (a friend had a little hand made bear) that she'd wear inside her bra and would go inthe basinette with her bub - something to do with your scent and familiarity.

:lol: its nice to know one of them loves their mummy rofl DD1 is such a daddies girl .......... Barb you are so right I wonder if the birth was as traumatic for her as it was for me. Her apgars were shocking then she was whisked away and I didn't get a cuddle until she was 4 hours old and she didn't feed then, and it was only a 10 min hold. then gone again for a few more hours .......... first feed was at 6am, she was born 9.20 the night before.


DH sleeps in DD room so its just me in bed with her doesn't help cure my fear of something happening to her despite not being a drinker, smoker or drug user :)

I brought it when DD2 was 9 months old cause I was desperate, DD2 would only sleep if we were sitting upright on the lounge with her. She is 1 on Saturday and still in it. I wish I brought one years ago.

Me 3! I'm exactly the same... My boy still LOVES his!

We transitioned to a Happy Hangup hammock around the 9 month mark as this particular type is good until they're about 3 years old if they're still keen!

.... Oh, and I really can't recommend a Love Me Baby zip up wrap enough! They are fantastic for little ones that love trying to escape their wraps by getting their hands out. My little darling slept much better once I got one of those, as he kept unswaddling himself! You can buy them from baby shops like Baby Kingdom etc

I'm #4!

I don't know how we would have survived without our hammock (Natures sway too!) Both my girls loved it as did the 3 other babies who have used it. I didn't put DD2 into it until about 7 weeks and when I did she went from cat naps to her first 4 hour sleep of her life. We had outs hung from a hook in the ceiling right next to my bed so I could bounce her without getting out of bed if needed and also strung it from any doorway in the house that worked. Lifesaver.

Otherwise, I second what Barb said. Sounds like another variation of normal and in need of a little comfort. I love the advice

I'll second that. I have maz BP and ds will occasionally pinch one to snuggle to this day.

Or could you put your PJ top in with her to snuggle to, smells like mummy.

I had this problem with my DD. She was clearly very well fed as she had rolls on her rolls but she just constantly wanted to suck. For me, the solution was a sling & a dummy. Now my problem is trying to get rid of the dummy. I did try once before but she ended up BF all night again so I gave her the dummy back. We were going to try cold turkey tonight but after 3 minutes, I couldn't do it. She's now sleeping with her dummy.

Neither of my bubs liked to be wrapped. I just gave up on it & dressed them in wondersuits or similar.

It will come back to you & you will find a rhythm that works for you & your DDs. Good luck.

I think I will try the suggestion of the sopmething with mummy smell on it, I have a hammock but like her big sister I cannot get her to settle in it, I have tried and tried and tried but she seems to hate it. Even if I put her in it when she is passed out cold "drunk" on boob juiceshe stirs within a few minutes and screams.

Last night to give me a break Dh looked after her until she fell asleep then at her 3am feed she ended up back in bed with me . After 10 min of resting this morning after her feed she is in her snuggle bed crying wanting to be picked up ....... I just cannot keep this up. DD1 is missing out on some mummy time andI cannot seemto catch a break long enough to scratch my backside.

Formula and dummies are looking more and more enticing! at least then someone else can have her for a few hours....my broken boobs don't let down at a pump so I cannot express :( makes it really really tough when its just me going around the clock!

Nae in the most beautiful supportive way...... Stop the negative talk. You are talking yourself out of this. Turn it around. Fake it til you make it. The first six week are tough. Your dd1 will survive, it's just not her turn. Hugs

Nae, I feel for you. Newborns are tough. Having an older child must only make things more complicated. The others have given great advice, so I'll just offer some :hug: and all my support.
