Healing from a C Section
How long does it take for the scar to heal and your muscles to be normal and not achey after a c section?
I'm nearly 5 weeks post c section and everything was great, pain free and all 2 weeks ago. I was moving freely, without pain. Now, after waking around and doing daily things, by the afternoon I'm sore and achey, end the night I'm in agony and can barely move. But, when I wake in the morning I feel fine again..
What's going on? :s
Eta ... Mums looked at my scar to check for infection and she says it looks great. No signs.

Took me about 5 and a bit weeks to heal. Even at the 6 week mark, just before my 6 week check up, I still had hassles.
Hope your feeling ok soon hun xx

Hmm, I'm not really sure I recovered really well from my section when I had the twins..
Yas, who is here on BB, had trouble after her c section, she had an infection on the inside I don't think she showed signs of infection on the outside until it was quite bad. That was about 6wks post partum. She ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics.. I'd go get it checked at the hospital. You must be due for your check up soon, can you bring it forward?
Happy new year, hope Amelia is going from strength to strength everyday xx
ETA: I just read that post back, and I hope I didn't scare you, I just think you should get it checked.. You just never know, especially because you may be a bit run down, so prone to infection anyway.. Last thing you need is to get sick xx

It can take ages for everything to be right again.
Just remember though, you still shouldn't be lifting anything heavier than your baby - so clothes baskets full of wet washing are a no go. This is one of the reasons that they recommend you don't drive.
There are several layers of healing that need to take place, and you can't see or feel them all until you have done damage. Take it easy, make sure you are cleaning the wound site regularly and drying it well, calendula is fabulous too. Make sure you are looking at it to for signs of infection or tearing.
I would ask the dr about it at your 6 week check, or perhaps have one of the nurses look at it when you are in with Amelia tomorrow xx

I'll get the nurses to have a look at my visit today.
It's just funny that in the morning it doesn't hurt and the arvo it gets worse. I thought it might be my muscles and nerve endings still fusing together?
Scarey about the inside infection... I hope its not the case... Poor Yas. :(
Maybe I'm doing too much... My GP had a look at it nearly 2 weeks ago and said it was healing really well. But then again he missed the PE... Oh dear...

Hun with everything going on in your life then Xmas and new years you are probably doing WAY too much. I agree with BAL its worth getting checked out but really I don't think you would feel ok in the mornings if it was an infection. You had MAJOR surgery. Women that have hysterectomys take a lot longer to recover than cs women, really only cause the new mother has to get on with it and the hysterectomy women is told it will take six weeks or more to recover IYKWIM?
Also what type of cs did you have a classic or a LSCS and sometimes the outer scar looks like a LSCS but internally it was a classic?? Well classics take a lot longer to heal than the lower ones??
-
I didn't have a classic I had a normal one. They thought they might have to do classic but she was up higher than they thought.
I didn't think I was doing too much but now that I think about it, the days I don't have naps during the day are worse.. hmm maybe I'm running around too much. I dunno. :(

Sound Like because it feels good early in the day you may be overdoing it  easy to do when you feel ok but as pp's mentioned it is major surgery and the muscles have been through a huge trauma. FWIW it took me ages to not get stretching aching pain, almost a year from memory and even now I occasionally get a weird pulling sensation. Take it easy don't do any lifting and rest if you can if you do overdo it xox

I didn't drive till post 6 weeks and even though it was healing well, my family were concerned and always made sure I didn't push myself. When I checked out of hospital the midwife lectured them about giving me a break and I think that was nice! :)

I'd imagine you're overdoing things (quite understandably in your situation). I was told when released from hospital to go home and act like I was still in hospital for 4 weeks at least. This meant showering, dressing, going to the loo, sleeping, and getting food and drinks - nothing major. Was told not to walk too far, lift a broom or anything heavier than that. I ignored it one day and went out with DH and DD to visit my mum at work. Just getting in and out the car and walking a few hundred metres holding DD was enough to cause me a world of aches for the next few days, so it doesn't take much.

It's hard having to travel around an hour to see my girl every day. Hopefully she makes a tonne of progress really quickly and comes home soon. By the time I come home I'm knackered but still end up doing everything around the house cos poor DH is wayyy too tired and over it. I think I need to organise a house cleaner... But wait. That involves money. Which because of her very early arrival, I don't have... Ah well. I'll try to take it easy.

 Just do the absolute minimum around the house. Your little girl needs you strong and healthy for her and all the other stuff can wait. xoxox

Have you got family or friends who could help out with the cleaning etc? I'm sure they'd be only to happy to help if asked.

Lynsdan- congrats on your beautiful girl :) I stalk your blog everyday for updates :) Make sure you get checked out Hun, I had normal pain after my c-sec. It seemed ok and then at 4 and a half weeks PP it started coming back (like yours) in the arvo/night. I thought I was overdoing it because it looked perfect on the outside, but by 6 weeks PP I was in agony all the time- it was worse than when I first had it done.
I had an u/s (which was hell!) and the infection was really bad. I was put on oral antibiotics but after 3 days The infection didn't respond to them, and I was admitted and placed on 2 different types IV antibiotics which gave me the boost I needed to get better. I was so lucky to still have my uterus.
On the outside it didn't look infected, because the scar wasn't- my uterus was. I also lost my milk supply due to this infection, I tried for 6 weeks after to get it back but couldn't :(
Good luck babe, take it easy. Lots of love to you, your DH and gorgeous daughter! Xxxxxx

I had a nurse check it out this arvo at the hospital and she said it looked great asked how I was feeling and my milk supply and every other question under the sun and she thinks its just healing and me not taking it easy. She told me to check with my gp when I visit on Tuesday just to be sure though. So ill do that x thanks girls.

It can vary a lot. My scar is now just a silvery line, but the scar tissue is a whole other story. If I over-exert myself (it has to be extreme. like moving house etc) I have pain in the area around my scar. I often have a 'pulling' sensation deep within it, and other feelings I can only describe as burning/stabbing. I think a lot of my pain is due to nerve-damage. For months afterwards, I had no feeling around my scar. It varies day to day for me, but I now have most of my feeling back. I was told the burning pain is the nerves 'talking to eachother' and trying to communicate as they normally would, ITMS.
I think for 5 weeks PP you're going nicely. Oh and to answer your question about muscle tone, I still have none. But that's mostly my fault.
How is Amelia going?
