New Partner who has had Vasectomy and now need to have ICSI

Hi i am a proud mother of 3 children who are, 12, 10 and almost 6. I have a new partner who has had a Vasectomy and wants to desperately have a baby with me. He has 3 children too in his previous marriage. I have had 3 C-Sections prior and have been pregnant 8 times so the road to be a mother was not an easy one :( We have now been advised by a FS that we have to have his Sperm Aspirated and than go through ICSI. Has anyone been through this type of situation previously and what was the success of it? My partner is 38 and i am 34. Thanks in advance :)

my dh has children from previous relationships and had a vasectomy. I havent had children before so wanted (at least) one.
Dh had a reversal done but was unsuccessful, so we then did ISCI. DH said getting the sperm from him was easy, he has 11+ tattoos and said they were more painful and uncomfotable (this apparently isnt common with everyone tho) he had it done with a local but did have the option for a GA if he wanted (but then we would have needed someone to drive us both home) they do it the same time as they pick up your eggs (you will have to have a GA)

Addit ~ oh we had to do it twice... First time got 10 eggs, 5 fertilised, 3 made it to day 5 for transfer... None got me preg. 2nd time basically exact same figures but this time we tf 2 on day 2, 1 stuck and im currently preg!! and we have 1 day5 and day2 frozen.

Like Teirae, my DH has older children and a vasectomy and I had none. We talked about children from the start and he was told by a dr that it would be better to do ivf rather than a reversal (it had been about 10 years). When we did the scans at the beginning of ivf it turned out that I had polycystic ovaries, so I could have had trouble conceiving anyway.

So from the time we made our first appointment until we got our BFP was about 6 months. You have to wait ages for an appointment with a FS usually and then you need to do all the BT's & scans etc (which I think happens at the beginning of your mens. cycle). Then you have to wait for another cycle to start the follicle stimulating homones. You usually get monitored really closely which is great. I much prefer this to what I think it would be like to have to conceive naturally and wait every month (this is if you were having trouble ttc).

After our first icsi cycle I had one embryo transferred and there was none to freeze. It didn't take, so we did another cycle using DH's frozen sperm (from last cycle). I had another embryo transferred with one left to freeze. That one didn't take either, so the next month after I ovulated, they transferred the frozen embryo and that resulted in our DS! :D We moved interstate and had to start with a new clinic. We we got fresh sperm aspirated from DH and we were really lucky to get our BFP the first time, plus 3 frozen babies waiting!

I'm so glad we had an 'ours' baby, and the other children all love him to bits :)

Hi hun and welcome to belly! We've been in a similar situation with success. My DF is 47 and had a vesectomy over 16 years ago after he had 3 kids with ex wife. He had the reversal done almost 4 years ago, due to me pressuring him to do it as I wanted a natural pg, but it didn't work. We were then advised to do IVF with ICSI and proceeded to do a cycle in 2008. My DF's sperm was taken out of his testie (he's only got one) and they got enough swimmers to fertilise 11 eggs and we got two 5 and 6 day embryos whish were of good quality. I've had 2 successful pg from these embryos (even though I lost my first baby to an unrelated problem). GL to you and your partner, there is success with what your action plan is!

Thanks so much for your responses :) It means alot to me to have found this forum and have the support. We have an appt with a FS Nurse on 10th Jan 2012 to go through everything and than we go from there. I am nervous as i dont know what the odds of falling pregnant are? I really want to give him a baby as he has a rather nasty ex-wife who uses his children against him :( Very sad situation.
One question i was wondering do they transfer 1 embryo or can you ask for 2? I would prefer 2 with my age etc.

Thanks so much for your reply, How many embryos do they transfer? I would like 2 incase 1 didnt take you had a second chance? Do they do this or are they worried about the chances of Multiples?

Hmmmmm, I wonder if your partner's ex wife is related to my partner's ex? hahaha. My FS will only transfer 1 embryo. It really depends on your FS. I have read somewhere that some FS will transfer 2 to increase your chances of getting pg as your fertility decreases with age, (I think in Victoria 2 is max) but like I've said it really depends on your doc. I'm 41, and when I did my first cycle at 38 my FS said that's it's better to go with one and have more success than risk a multiple pg and and have something go wrong. GL with your app. hun! xox

Kissaboo - it depends who you go with, but because of your age and the fact that you have both conceived before, they would probably only do one. I think the more reputable clinic prefer to do only one because multiple pregnancy is actually a complication.

Like I said in my second cycle I had 2 embryos and one was transferred while the other was frozen. Had they transferred 2, DS would have been a month older. It costs much less to do a frozen embryo transfer and they can just do it when you ovulate. I guess each case is different though and you FS will decide what's best in your circumstance.

my clinic would only do 1 for the first cycle, after that they said they cant actually decided for us what we want, so we opted for 2 after that, even at my age, they werent too worried with 2 FET, but when they put in 2 fresh they started freaking out, and actually said some things that werent ..professional? about how basically they have ruined my life and its the end of the world that they put in 2 fresh. only 1 stuck and its who I am carrying now, but i was a bit deflated when they made out that 2 babies were so horrible and the end of the world, I was just happy to be pregnant, and we put 2 in only to increase our chance of getting 1.

and yes, DH 2nd ex is the devil, the reason why he had a vas in the first place, wasnt really his choice =(

Oh - just thought I'd add, this woman I was in a 'pregnancy through ivf' thread with had 2 embryos transferred and ended up with triplets after one embryo split. Unfortunately one stopped growing later on (I think it was the non identical on). But ivf increases the chance of identical twins anyway.
