So i'm six weeks into another pregnancy and my nipples are soooo sore when i feed DS. It's a cross between feeling like he is biting/chewing on them and them being sliced with a razor. How long does this normally last? Is it a first trimester thing...or is it a whole pregnancy thing when feeding? Any advice would be great!
I've found that the pain comes and goes but early in the first try was when I first noticed it and what made me think maybe I'm pregnant. I still go through periods when it's painful. Just got to make sure attachment and positioning are good.
Call the ABA Helpline (1800 MUM 2 MUM) and they can give you more information, or have a look on their website. I know that they have a whole information booklet devoted specifically to information about feeding while pregnant (it's called "Breastfeeding through Pregnancy and Beyond").
As with everything during pregnancy, it varies from mother to mother, but usually the tenderness and pain should settle down after the first trimester.

Otherwise, I did it and the sensitivity went away after about 14 weeks and we could feed again, till there wasn't much coming out. DS would still give it a go and would look at me and say "all gone". His ship came in, though, two days after DD was born!
Did u keep feeding him even tho your supply was gone? Or did he stop n start again?
i am 40 weeks pregnant and have breastfeed my 20 month old dd through the pregnancy. some times have been more uncomfortable than others. it wasn't consistently painful through the pregnancy, came in cycles.
my supply decreased in first tri, and dd was quite frustrated for awhile but she then adjusted and was ok to take what she could get. at times, i have had to ask her to stop feeds cos it was just getting too much. i do a count down from 10 to 1, and then try to distract her.
a few times i thought that dd might stop feeding, but each time she has come back again.
Oh gosh hotI you're nicer than me when it gets too much I yell get off get off get off lol but that's usually when she helps herself during the night.
I fed through this pregnany and am now feeding both. The sensitivity came and went for me but was definitely at its worse early on and then in the last few weeks. DD1 was around 2 (now 2 and 9 months) when I fell pregnant but has a very good comprehension (although delayed speech, she communicates in sign language) so I would explain to her times when I couldn't manage, such as when morning sickness was really kicking in and offer other activities for us to do. By the end of the pregnancy she was only feeding for sleeps so it was a lot more managable, she cut down herself and although I made an attempt to nightwean, I never refused and she started sleeping through of her own accord just before DD2 arrived and has continued that now. I never noticed a supply drop although DD1 did comment when my milk changed to colostrum but she wasn't phased by it.
Jellyfish can I ask when your milk turned to colostrum?
I fed my son through my daughter's pregnancy, and am now tandem feeding both my son (2years8mths) and my daughter (12 months) during this pregnancy. Earlier on in both pregnancies breastfeeding became excruciating and it wasn't uncommon for me to feed in tears because it was so painful. My personal desire to continue to breastfeed is what drove me to persist through the pain. I'm currently 28 1/2 weeks now and the pain has eased but I'm definitely still a lot more sensitive than when I am not pregnant. My supply has definitely dropped though (and did last pregnancy too), but they are both still happy to feed. My daughter still gets priority and my son feeds about once a day but I don't think he gets much at all because it's usually after my daughter has pretty much drained me.
My son weaned at around 9-10 weeks. I had no milk at all once I started the IVF meds unfortunately, but he kept at it for quite a while before giving up. It really did hurt from around 6 weeks. Hope it gets better for you
A combination of low milk and DD getting a fever illness when i was 3 months pregnant led her to night wean. She wanted fluids and there wasn't enough milk and she worked out a water bottle was much more effective! DD is a bit older and I'm getting a break overnight so it's easier to cope during the day.:
I don't know when milk when to colustrum, i assume it has, and her poos are kinda wet (i assume for her age i don't check out too many other kids' nappies).

Thanks for the feedback everyone! yeh i want to persevere cuz DS is no where near ready to wean. We have dropped a night feed over the last few months so it's just for sleeps and when he wakes up mostly. Still i do notice a difference in my energy levels though - today he didn't have a feed till afternoon and i had so much more energy today compared to the last few days where he has wanted extra feeds in the morning.
Will see what happens. Glad to know it's not usually a constant thing throughout the pregnancy.
