How much would you pay

For my car :) I want to buy the house we are renting and that means getting rid of the debt from the wedding. So I'm selling my car for a cheapie. I've never sold a car, my first one my dad has and my second one I wrote off. It's valued at cars sales at around 8-9k but I bought it a year ago much more than that and I see them selling more than that too so what would you pay for-

Electric Sunroof
6 stacker cd player
130000kms
Leather interior
Immobilizer


With rwh but rego runs out in feb.

The drivers seat is a little worn- was when I bought it. Otherwise no damage.

Insured for $14k.

maybe you could work out a price that you want the absolute minimum for. Then add a couple of thousand on top of that, that way there is room to negotiate.

From what you've listed, I'd probably pay no more than $11k

I would enter all the details as if you are searching for your car on carsales or somewhere like that and see what others are selling for - will give you a rough idea!

From the sounds of things, I think the $8-9K valuation is about right. With a years worth of rego, maybe $10-11K. I have found that unfortunately second hand cars lose heaps of value in even one year.

Yeah, I reckon $8-9k too. It's an 11 year old car with at least two previous owners.

I bought a Mazda 6 (2005) 18 months ago with similar kms for just under $10k.

I tried to sell a car a few years ago, try not to set your expectations on what you see them advertised for as this is not the price they will sell for and you will be disappointed (i know i was)! I would stick to the valuation on car sales, and maybe add an extra grand on top for negotiating purposes. When someone is looking at a buying a second hand car places like car sales valuations is one of the first places they will look to see if they are being ripped off and if you are too high above it they won't be interested.

There is a sight you can look up and it will give you approx for values for vehicles depending on no of km's etc.

The sight is called Redbook. If you google it you will find it.

I was also going to suggest RedBook. The range there given for each used car is reasonable. Also look at what that car is selling for on other websites.

I've sold two cars on carsales.com.au and they were both gone within a few days.

Beware the 'cheapie' that turns out to be unreliable and expensive to run/maintain/repair.
You might decide, if that's all you can get for it, that you're better off with what you've got, knowiung it's reliable, rather than taking a risk on an unknown cheapie.

I was going to say this too. Before you sell your car, make sure you have a really good look at what is out there for the money that you can spend and still achieve your goal. Sounds like your car, while on the older side, is prety spiff with all the extras so you might find you need to take a step further down that what you would actually be happy with.

I would also consider listing its service history.

Ie. if you have always had it serviced andhave the log book, mention that.

Has it has all of its big services? What are tyre like?

Has it been in any accidents?

These will be things people will take into consideration when buying a car.

I'd say $9000 would be pushing it for a 10 year old car with that large amount of Kms. Redbook guides $5000-$7000. Tbh, I don't think it's worth it to sell and then buy something cheaper for what $2000. You're not going to be ahead by much.

I'm thinking of getting a Mitsubishi magna around a 2000 model. Cheaper to run, fix, replace tyres etc etc so it's more than just a cheapie car it's about long term costs too - but in saying that dh much to my infuriation went and got a car on finance so a) we can't do anything about it and b) now I hardly use my car, I only use it to take dd to swimming once a week.
