How the heck is this right?

So apparently, over an hour of feeding DD to sleep equals just over an hour of sleep. Followed by so far a further 20 minutes of feeding back to sleep. How does that work out?

She's kind of sleeping while feeding, but if I gently unlatched her she fights to get back on. If I let her go long enough she stops, but then cries and wakes as soon as I put her down. Usually it doesn't bother me, but I just spent so long sitting up with her attached for so little sleep! Some nights it'll go like this every hour, so I'm just hoping she finishes soon as isn't up in another hour :(

Anyone else go through this? And maybe know of an easier way to get her back to sleep? Right now she won't go to sleep in the night for anything but a breastfeed.

Dunno if it helps at all... but you are not alone. DS has been awake (and then fed back to sleep) every 40 mins since 8pm - it's now 10.30. Trying not to begrudge him as the poor little guy has clearly got a pain in his belly tonight. But seriously... MY boobies!!

My little boy used to do that A LOT during those first few months... But the great news is IT PASSES! and my boy was certainly not one for compromise... If he wanted booby then he wanted booby lol (and still does!) but honestly, I rode it out (somehow) and those needs really did stop as he got older. He now feeds a lot at night but hardly ever where he will refuse to come off after extended period of time breastfeeding, he only ever does that during a rare growth spurt. Plus I have found my sons sleeps during the day got longer as he got older (he used to only sleep 20-40 mins at a time and now most says it's 1.5hours - relief!) it will change and I promise it won't last for long! Try to do what you need to do to get through it... Lots of support from my DH was what helped me heaps. Good luck hun... I'm here if you need to talk!!!

Thanks guys :) Thankfully it's not every night, but why tonight? I was already tired and cranky and had *just* sat down to watch a dvd with DH.

Hugs, no advice but we have the exact same deal here every night!! Some nights worse than others but yeah, a bit draining lol. I've heard a rumour they grow out of it, so here's hoping!!

Well last night was quite awful, she slept for another hour and a half, had a 40 minute feed, 2 hours, 10 minutes, 2 hours, 20 minutes, 1 hour, 10 minutes, 1 hour, up for the day.

I'm knackered. Usually bringing her into our bed helps when she's waking lots, but lately it makes it worse. She slept for 2 hours, then rolled over to latch on, pulled off (painfully) and rolled back, then repeated until she got cranky and cried. So I had to sit up to feed her, then I heard a darn mozzie so spent 20 minutes swatting it away.

Le sigh...

I always found that when there were teeth coming through my boys spent much more time wanting to suck, it would be really full on for a few days or so until things settled down again. Or sometimes it wasn't teeth at all, they just went through a few days of needing lots of extra cuddles, but it does always seem to settle down. It's tough & seemingly never-ending when you're in the middle of it though :hug:

my DS was like that for no particular reason that i could tell until he was about 18 months old. i always found it a bit crowded in bed with the 3 of us so DS slept on a king single mattress on the floor from about 9 months old & i would sleep with him. it made him really easy to put down after a feed (or i'd feed lying down from about 7 months i think) & be able to get away or just go back to sleep depending on what time it was.

when he was really bad, there were quite a few nights where i would just feed him & let him sleep on me while we watched a dvd/tv with the lights off. not ideal but it certainly didn't create a habit that we couldn't break & i promise that he does now sleep in his own bed & pretty much sleeps through most nights. sometimes you need the downtime & 'me' time & that worked for us as a compromise.

That's exactly what it's like here Sloane, I can't see any reason for her to not be sleeping well. I'm eating a lot better to try and help her sleep, but last night she had horrible gas - her stomach was making huge gurgling noises. So sleep last night was much the same pattern as Friday night, with less actual sleep lol.

The problem is that usually when she's waking alot I'll bring her into bed and we'll all sleep better, but lately she still only goes for a maximum two hours and then wakes crying. I don't know if maybe she wants more room? She has enough, we give her half the bed! I'm thinking if she doesn't improve soon we might move into the spare room where there's a mattress on the floor, at least then DH might get some sleep and can take over in the morning on weekends (he's really good about getting me some sleep during the day :))

I just wish I knew what was going on - there's obviously a need for comfort because feeding her is the only way to get her back to sleep. I just wish there was another way, an hour of feeding, for an hour of sleep followed by another half hour of feeding doesn't seem right, she can't be hungry!
