Who's going through toilet training right now?

We started toilet training in earnest on the weekend. I bought loads of little terry-toweling pants and we "caught" every second pee in the toilet plus two poos! I bought a toddler seat and step stool for the toilet as he doesn't seem at all keen with the potty (except to put toys in). Our biggest success is putting him on the toilet when he first wakes up - yesterday after his nap he had a dry nappy.

Today DS2 went to childcare in a pair of pants rather than a nappy - the childcare centre is very happy for this to happen.

I just thought I'd see if anyone else is out there who would like to share the (somewhat messy) journey of toilet training!

Sounds like your little man is going great guns! We have been trying for a couple of weeks. With no pants on DD is great (except with poos..havent yet managed to get one of those in the toilet. Thankfully we have floorboards so the clean up isn't so bad..lol). When she has undies on though she tends to just go and watch it dribble onto the floor. So quite a long way to go yet I think! I was excited a few days ago when she had underpants on and managed to tell me twice she needed to do a wee and didn't even get a drop on her undies. But the next day it was back to puddles on the floor!
Doesn't help that my DF thinks it is somehow inappropriate for her to be wearing no pants when we are at home. I really dont understand it and he can't give me a reason beyond 'it's just wrong'. Nevermind she is only 2 1/2 years old!

we've been going slowly slowly here - just asking if he needs to go to the toilet (while still in nappies). Sometimes he does and manages a wee and other times he doesn't want to. We've caught the wee after church before wetting the nappy the past 2 weeks! :leap:. Not getting it always at home though. I've got childcare also asking if he needs to go at nappy check time. I'm not going straight to training pants this time (we tried in Oct for a week or so) as his eczema is playing up and I don't want to aggravate that anymore than it already is. Not having much success with the idea of a poo yet but I figure they're easier to clean up if they get caught in undies or nappy than wee all over the floor (we have a combo of lino, floorboards and carpet here)

We have been trying on and off for a few weeks but DS1 is just not interested. We put all sorts of cool undies on him and take him to toilet or potty every 20 mins and you can bet after 4 or 5 times of this he will then wee in between on the floor in undies.

We have a step, a seat that goes on top of toilet seat, a seat that goes under toilet seat, a seat with steps and yet all of these are fun to put on get on and get off and flush oh and waste lots of toilet paper but not do anything in toilet!

CC are putting him on toilet as well regularly but nappy is always wet or dirty before hand so they feel he is just not psycologiclly ready yet! Has been slow with everything didnt walk til 21 months!! so not surprised.

Just frustrating as getting so big to change nappies for!

DD started using the potty just over a week ago. We bribed her with a toy and she went straight away and hasn't looked back lol! She did #2's on the potty no problems to begin with, but now she's getting all stressed every time she has to do one. She'll hold it in and get very agitated. We went out for the day on Sunday and she was so cranky by the end of the day because she wanted to poo, but wouldn't do it in someone else's toilet and she waited until we got home to go (not without much carrying on). So pretty much I have a cranky, tantying girl every time she has to poo. Not fun! The other downside is now she wakes at around 3am to use the potty even though she's wearing a nappy overnight. I guess it's kind of good, but I miss her sleeping through!

My youngest is toilet training. He is petrified of the toilet as he struggles to balance comfortably but loves his potty. Daycare have asked us to take it in so he can use it there.

He goes bare bum when we get home. In fact, he strips off as he walks in the door. The neighbours don't care if he runs around out the front with just a shirt on while daddy talks to everyone.

Haven't had an accident when he is bare bum but have them every time with pull-ups. Might try him with jocks this weekend to see how he goes.

I want to but ds2 seems to be completely uninterested. Anytime I mention the toilet he says no flat out. I think he is scared of it so I'm going to buy a potty and see if I have more luck. New territory for me as ds1 trained straight on the toilet.

We have been in pull ups for a while and doing really well at nursery with dry pull ups 99% of the time. But she was completely disinterested at home, just relied on the pull ups. So we have gone into undies for the past 2 days and have had 1 accident each day and she is often telling me now when she needs a wee. Poos I have to watch for the tell tell signs and get her to the toilet. Tomorrow will be her first undies day at nursery so I have packed lots of changes of clothes!

I don't know if you'd call it toilet training, but we've introduced the potty into the bedtime routine the last few weeks. It's working fantastically at the moment - we give DS a shower or bath, then before we dress him we ask him if he can sit on the potty and do a poo or wee, turn on the nightgarden and give him a bottle of milk. He always tended to poo in his nappy around this time anyway, but since we've had him going on the potty they are MASSIVE poos. If I had to change a nappy with poo that big in it I think I would faint. :lol: He likes the idea of weeing in the potty but he mustn't be able to sense when one is coming yet, because he'll sit on the potty readily and stand up after a short while and point and say "wee!", but there's nothing there. And when I let him go nappy free with the potty nearby he always ends up weeing on the floor. :rolleyes:

I'm sure I need to take your approach of potty straight after waking up. Only trouble is I usually try to delay the inevitable when he wakes up at 5am in the morning by bringing him into bed with us.

We are kind of. Pie has been in knickers since early December - she just decided on her own to start using the toilet - but lately there have been a few accidents which surprises me because there were none for so long. And it's not like she didn't get there in time - the other night she just stood up on the couch & peed all over it :o - and then did it twice the next day, as well!
So, no idea what that's all about....

Monday at childcare he managed to get 3 wees in the toilet (and about 6 misses). Yesterday he did the same. His carer told me this morning that yesterday he was outside playing when he came tearing inside saying “toilet” but only made it as far as the door before he had his accident. She said we are progressing so it’s all good – boys just take longer!

This morning we had "success". A big wee when he got up (although his nappy was quite wet - obviously from during the night). He was skulking about looking like he needed to poo so DH took him (read dragged him) to the toilet. He had started to do a bit of a wee in his pants but did the rest plus a poo in the toilet. After that it was a half hour trip into work hoping that we would make it through security and into the childcare centre before he peed his pants and..... :leap: he sat on the big toilet and screwed up his face, did a fart then a bit of a wee and then said “book?!”. We didn’t have a book so he looked at my work diary (not very exciting!).

Ah, made it to work without any accidents!!

Yes TT here as well and I'm pretty much over it ... My ds 3 1/2 is practically trained except 5 mornings in a row he pulls his Willy out pees on the bed .... So both beds are stripped and have wee marks all over them ( he has a spare bed waiting for his little brother) . I so growled this morning as I know he is being plain defiant and apart from letting him sleep on a bare mattress I have no idea what to do.
If he really did have a fall in accident wouldn't the pull up be drenched as well as the sheet etc ? Well his pullup is dry WTF ?

Much success this morning. DS2 did the biggest poo in the toilet! I think he's been holding on - I had already commented to DH that I thought we should put him in a nappy so he didn't get constipated from holding on.

Anyway a big poo in the toilet - hooray for us!

We then dropped DH off to work and drove in to my work, parked the car in the basement, got through security, unlocked the office, said hello to the girls then I took him to the toilet and... he screwed up his little face and did a pee! He was so pleased with himself (so was mumma!) :dance:

Oh well done Cass' DS2! What a clever boy.

We are doing well here also. DD is in her 5th day in big girl undies and did so very well yesterday - only 1 wees accident and that was because they were in the middle of coming in from outside (at nursery) so the teacher thinks she just didn't want to say that she needed to go. She is regularly telling me now that she needs to do wees and getting to the toilet in time. We have been driving to work the past 3 days and had no accidents in the car. Poos - I think she is holding it in a bit to be honest. She is normally a 1-2 times a day girl and she seems to be going some days without any and other days she is timing it when she has her night nappy on. One step at a time I guess!

Hehehe. It's always a nervous trip in the car Janie! We haven't had any "accidents" so far but as soon as we get to where we are going I head straight to the nearest loo!

i am currently training our little girl to, she is 20.5 months old,
hubby made a step for our loo and she has loved sitting on it for months now,
just the last few days now i let her wear no knickers or nappy at home and she comes to me when she needs to go, and i sit her on toilet and she goes,
i am still putting a nappy on her at bed time but will prolly take that away in about a week or 2 cause she isnt waking up with a wet nappy its dry.

she sometimes has no accidents during day, at most she has had 3 accidents they were at kindy though, (she goes to kindy 2 days a week) so i think thye just arent paying attention

our first daughter who is now 8 was fully trained day and night by age 2. we never forced this on them, kids get it when they get it, we have also let them come to bathroom with us anytime dont shut doors and we never use a potty as i think that sometmes stops them using other ppls toilets or when your out a park

even when i go out now i leave knickers on her and take her to the toilet at shops or park each time i go also, (she does need work holding a bit more cause somtimes she doesnt tell you anything just stands holding her legs closed saying mummy mummy, and if im not payng attention by talking to someone else she will start to pee, :(

Well, Friday he came home in the same pair of pants that we sent him in. No accidents! Every wee was on the toilet. I thought we where there.... argh, big mistake!Saturday morning was nothing but wet pants and wet floors. Today we are having a better day with more in the toilet than on the floor or in his pants.

Chocoholic - did you try jocks on your DS?

Trish - my LO is also waking up around 230-3am each morning. This morning I put him onto the toilet and then DH put him back to bed. When he woke up (at a reasonable time) I put him back on the toilet.

EmmaJane - I was talking DS2s CC carer on Friday and she said that often asking them if they want to go to the toilet or putting them on the toilet (and then getting off again) is enough to "trigger" a wee. She said it was really common for them to get off a toilet or potty and wee straight away. One other thing she said was to not get upset when they seem to go really well at childcare but nothing but accidents at home: they seem to "get it" quicker at childcare.

Feeb - we are also fascinated with putting things in the toilet: it's his new best friend! I've found all manner of things in there. Creditcards (when he's been in my wallet), toy phones, puzzle pieces, blocks, toothbrush ... um, yes! we do was everything properly and some things just get thrown out!

Bubno.3 & Fleur - I have no idea, but sounds like you might both be experiencing the same thing.

It's a messy (and FRUSTRATING) process, but I think ;) we are making progress!

Poop and wee on the floor for us. I can never seem to catch his wee's in time but during the day DS just walks around nakey when its hot.
We have 3 potties placed around the house but he doesn't like to sit on them. So it is going to be a long journey for us just like with DS1 and he still wears pull ups to bed as he wets the bed pretty bad.

I have found out recently from my mum that I wet the bed up until the age of 8 :reface: which means that it could be likely that DS1 will too for a while at least?

We will just keep plodding along :)
