Public maternity hospital's seriously bad policy
A gf of mine had her baby just over a week ago. She birthed at a public hospital and already knew from midwife appointments that provided everything went well, she would have no more than 24 hours absolute maximum in hospital before she would be sent home. Ok, not a problem for me because I hate hospitals but "going well" can still include a very long, tiring birth and a couple of days to recuperate before going home with a newborn to other kids might be nice. Anyway . . .
GF's waters broke at 10.30 pm. After calling the hospital she arrived close to midnight. By 12.30 am they were telling her that because she was not really progressing yet they were going to start inducing her!!! I mean seriously. Give the woman a chance. There were no issues with either her or the baby - purely a "get em in, get em out" mentality. Fortunately she dug her heels in and her son was born without any further intervention just before 6am.
I'm just so sad for her that she was placed under so much pressure when her body was doing such a beautiful job on its own.
