Help needed please - car seat question

Ok so my chubba is 12kg and his head is nearly at the top of his seat.

I was looking in the target cataloufe and they have a hipod senator convertible booster seat but I'm wondering if he is too young for this.

It still has the 5 point harness but when they get bigger you can take it out and just use the other one.

It says 8-26kg and has high side wings for superior protection.

I see that all seats aren't going by weight anymore but where their shoulders are against the levels.

I'm so confused. Please help

Both our girls are in the maxi-rider ahr convertible booster and have been since 12mths.

I think they have to be in a booster that still anchors down until 4 or 5+?
Does it have an anchor strap?

we just bought hte baby love ezy combo carseat - very similar seat with weight ranges etc

the ability to adjust the car seat is HUGE - there is extra padding around bum and head for when baby is small, there is several spots to adjust the six point harness, and then proper guides and attachments for the seperate H harness to use with car seatbelt later. i would struggle to put an 8kg bub in it personally cos i think they'd be dwarfed - but at 12kg, it would probably be ok to use. you'd just have to make sure all the extra padding was in the right place so that he was secure. i know a lot of people go from capsule to sns maxi rider, which is a very similar carseat...

fwiw - i did some research just recently into the safety of the carseats in that weight range as we wanted to get a new seat for DD. after reading recommendations on here for the ezy combo, i checked it out on choice and it came up safer than the safe n sound maxi rider. the hipod wasn't rated so i can't comment there. might be worth having a look into it a bit. there was a thread about seats 'similar to maxi rider" - may be worth having a look at hte recommendations from people that use them on here.

Does it recline at all?! Does your DS sleep in the car? I ask because lots of those seats that suit til 7 don't recline enough for babies to sleep comfortably, my DD almost 3 still sleeps in the car and the maxi rider sits more upright so her head flops forward :(

He does sleep but only on long drives. He is a mother choice carrera now and it's very upright too.

Maybe I will just layby one and then put it away till he gets bit bigger.

I dont understand the new laws that are going by height.

The ezy combo has two positions - one is very upright, one is quite reclined. we have set e's up as upright at the moment, as most trips are very short. if we're going on a longer trip, we'll change it over to the reclined position so she can relax more and sleep. we're lucky to have a mechanic who installs car seats daily as one of our friends, so he has shown us how to make sure it sits properly (our car seats aren't on a big recline so we need padding for the reclined postion

Olive.. You can recline the maxi rider ahr.. We have it reclined for Dd who is 3.
I would highly recommend the Maxi rider Ahr. Both my kids are huge (dd 110cms and 21kgs) and DS who is already 13kgs and looking to be bigger than DD at same age) and its is so versatile for bigger kids.

hun, your little man is only coming up to the start of active overload - once he starts walking, he'll slim down - he'll have another upwards spurt and probably won't gain any weight with it so he'll be a whole different shape

Sorry, stupid autocorrect, should check these things. It's a good seat, but it sits bolt upright. Great for my 3 year old, but. Don't now if my 16 month old would like it as she sleeps a fair bit in the car.

i've just posted a thread asking the mods if we can get the car seat rating page as a sticky somewhere for people to refer to

i have tried a lot of car seats over the year including the Maxi rider and my sister has a Hipod ans now my 4 year old sits in a Ezy Combo. I have just put one on Layby for my son too he is still in his capsule but when he turns around he will be going into the Ezy Combo i Love it! and it does rate better in the RAC tests than the other seats i mentioned! Im not sure about using it with a small child... i never have DS is 14 months and still rear facing
