amazing story of a birth in Auschwitz (WARNING! GRAPHIC)

I just had to share this, I worked in a nursing home for jewish people while at uni and I had a lovely lady Sophia, who was sadly suffering from severe dementia. She was a Holocaust survivor and she still had her serial number tattooed on her. I used to do the night shift and she would always wake at night screaming for her mother and father and I would have to settle her :( she would swallow what she would call "tablets" but there were just mentos mints but it was our ritual and it would put her straight to sleep. I watched a documentary on cable today about Auschwitz and it made me recall about one of her stories of her mother helping deliver a baby in the night inside the camp, I would just put it down to her demented ramblings but something on this show made me think twice so I googled it! funny enough I found this story. Could be coincidence, could not, but it is an amazing story and I could not not post it. I have never linked anything before so sorry mods if I have done it wrong or it is in the wrong forum.

What an amazing story. Thank you for sharing it. I knew something of what routinely happened to pregnant women in the camps but would never have considered a child could have been born and survived.

Total insanity...I don't know what to say. I could only allow myself a second to imagine it being me in that situation-how utterly horrific for these woman to experience such evil...

It's an amazing story - it's inspirational in a way. That while the human race shows it's ugliest side love can prevail and innocence be protected.

What a privilege, to care for Sophia and other like her, and be in a place to bring human kindness and compassion to her in the night when terrible memories surface. That is amazing that you've now discovered that her story wasn't just dementia talking - things like really happened. I'm amazed by the circle of womanly support around these rare births, even when they were trapped in a hideous hell that tried to destroy every last vestige of humaneness.

I am in such shock. Moved, disgusted, unsettled.

Thanks for sharing hun. It's truly a miracle this baby girl made it out of the camp. I'm Polish, and I visited the camp 3 years ago when I went back to visit my family. It was such a beautiful but incredibly sad place to visit. My heart aches for every single person that lost their life there.

Wow thanks for sharing I have always had an interest in the Holocaust after doing so much study on the book Elli and Schindlers list at high school in VCE. Such a horrific time in history that will never be forgotten, such a miracle to read that some good things did happen like this amazing baby.
