Group Self build, Department of Human services

Is anyone familiar with the Group Self Build project? It is run by DHS. At our old rental property there was about 10 houses in the estate that were part of it. DH became friends with one guy who was a single dad and part of it and he explained it all to us and how it works. I would love to build in the town we are renting in, but last time I enquired they said that it was becoming too expensive to build here, thus defeating the purpose of GSB.
But I put an application in months ago and they finally sent one back saying that they are considering releasing land in my town and that they will be in contact in the near future! I am really excited.

So I was just wondering if anyone has done this or know anyone else who has :)

I had some friends do this but I don't know much about it as they were interstate from us - they were happy with the experience about 5 years ago I think (except they've just moved to far north Qld from Vic so not sure how that all worked)

Thanks Leckert, from what I hear it sounds pretty good. We will never be able to save a house deposit so this would be perfect for us!
