School Reunions.

So this yr is my 10yr reunion. I'm really in 2 minds about whether I go or not. I want to because it might be ok to see everyone. But the other part of me doesn't want the judgement that comes with such an event. I was never popular in school - in fact i was the target of all bullies until yr 11. Then I found ways to avoid them by doing some good in the community. I have only kept in contact (barely) with 3 or 4 girls from school. I just don't know....

Did you go to your? How was it? Was it what you thought it would be?

I've got one this year, I'm looking forward to it. Never been to one before. I'm looking forward to catching up with some of my friends who I keep in contact with on FB but haven't seen since we were teenagers.

I went to my 10 year one earlier in the year. I had been looking foward to it for the 10 years, but all the people I was friends with in school werent going. I still decided to go, but got there and realised, I really didn't care about these people. I was the 'weird' one at school, no one use to ever talk me or anything, wasnt bullying, but wasnt fun either. so I went to the tour of the school, thena fterwards we were meant to go out to tea, I piked and went out with my girlfriends instead =) really wasn't fun. But you should go, cause if you dont you will think what if, and you wont know if you dont go =)

I wish I had gone to mine. I was busy with moving that weekend so I missed it. Funnily enough the girl I thought of as a bully has grown into a really funny, open minded woman. I really like her these days.

Mine should be this year too. I'd love to go! But I went to a small school, there were only 20 people in our year 12 class. I still keep in touch with my school friends, they're still some of my best friends :)

I was smart and not into drugs, and a bit overweight, so I was teased a bit. But to be honest, I'd like to see the bullies too. I'm so different now (emotionally) while still being the same you know? For me it'd be kind of like "Hey, remember me? I turned out better than I ever imagined, and you're all still exactly the same". (Which I know thanks to fb lol.)

I've gone to my 1, 5 and 10 year reunions, and all have been good for different reasons ... it's good to see people, see how they've changed, see who hasn't ...

There's always the urinating contest element (who studied where, what you're doing now, who is married, etc) but frankly, you can get that anywhere and it doesn't really bother me.

Every time, there's been a few really good conversations - often with people I knew but didn't know well at high school ... have sort of made some new friends at them, with people I've actually *known* for almost 20 years, but would never have thought of as being more than acquaintances ;)

i went to my 10 year reunion- it was OK- good to see what the people were doing but very much a show off, talk it up type of thing- not my cup of tea at all
It was my 20 year reunion a couple of years ago (ok all this talk about 10 year reunions makes me feel sooo old lol) and i didnt go
thought about it but figured if there were people that i was keen to see, i would have tracked them down b4 then. there was no one that i was really into seeing anyway- high school was a bit of a farce for me- i hated the school i went to

so for me unless i had invented post-it-notes or something just as spectacular- they were a waste of time for me
dont regret not going and i doubt if i will go to my 30 year one as well

Personally I wont be going if they do, I have kept in touch with anyone I wanted to know so dont feel the need to.

I didn't go to mine last year, I didn't want to go but it turned out we had family visiting that weekend anyways, and the fact that the chick that was organising it was saying some horrible things on fb to people who said they couldn't make it (that had proper reasons - being overseas for example), totally turned me off more.

I might go to the next reunion... who knows.

I didn't go to my 10 year reunion but only b/c it was my bros 21st. I would have gone even though I was not popular, I knew a few other people going & I got along with them (even though we never hung out) In 2 years it is our 20 year one & I think I would go to that one more for a look see.

I didn't go to my 10 year reunion. I was bullied somewhat in High School and didn't particularly like most of the kids I went to school with. I did think about going until someone posted something on FB about values and how they'd grown and developed their values and morals as they grew older...and one of the bullies wrote that she had the same values and morals as when she was a teen. I know she meant that she felt she had always had strong values and morals but it just made me think "And I bet you're still a bully". And I figured I probably wouldn't like them much these days and the event really didn't offer me anything (except a hangover the following day) so I elected not to waste my time.

det, I was just giggling at the thought of being old when you go to your 20 year reunion… and then realised mine would be next year :o

Sunshine, I really like Teirae's idea of go so you can see if it is crap and not end up forever wondering but have a back up escape planned if you need it. Bullying is something that can shake you for a long time. It could be good to see those tormentors for what they are now and realised how far you have moved on. Keep a photo of your gorgeous self and family with you so you know who you are ;)

I was never invited to my 10 year, seems the cool kids were keeping the invite list to those they wanted there! I went to school in the country (moved to the city permanently the day after school broke!) and I ran into a mate from school after the 10 year reunion who asked me why I didn't go. First I had heard of it! (Pre-facebook!!) Seems I didn't make the cut, nor did the couple of people I still keep in regular contact with. Funny thing is my parents still live in the same house I grew up in and we were the only ones with our surname in our town so I think the evidence is that I was kept off the list. :rolleyes:

Maybe I should covertly suss out the 20 year reunion next year and crash it! Ha!

I went to my 10 year reunion in 2006, and I was as nervous as hell and scared to go.. I went it was ok, but I was never in the popular group and there was still many "clicks" of groups that sat together and chatted and mostly was same ones that always thought they were better than anyone else. I had nothing in common with people I used to be close to but was nice to see some people and others couldnt have cared less to be honest.

I do not know if I will go to another if it is organised. I do have lots from school on FB and have chatted with a few to see what they are up to, and a few I was not close to I now chat to frequently!!!!!

^^ yeah that! My high school years were the worst!

We've had 2 reunions since I left school and I didn't attend either other them. I was bullied at school too and up until year 11 I didn't have many friends at all. Things changed for me in my senior years thankfully and I made friends with people who went so closed minded. I still see my few friends from school semi-regularly so I don't need to go to a reunion to be reminded of how unhappy I was in my school years.

DH has reunion coming up. He didn't want to go, but I convinced him.
The person who organised it, knowing that they're all 25 and most have young kids, made it so it's in a nightclub.

So, we won't be going.
How silly.

I had planned to travel back home for mine last year but in the end it got cancelled.
I was neither popluar or unpopular, just the middle person floating between groups, although there were some fights and things throughout the years we actually had a pretty good class, everyone knew everyone and generally got along.
Since school people have fallen out and things but i think most people are all friends on FB now, keeping tabs on each other and seeing who has kids etc.

I was shattered it was cancelled and a few of us keep saying we should organise our own little thing and see who can make it, we just haven't gotten around to it yet.

If it's going to bring up bad memories then i wouldn't go but if you think you can gain something out of it, show people who you have become despite their rude and horrible behavior, i'm sure you have much to be proud of.
